What is the piece of metal that crosses the strings on the headstock? I recently saw a "Gospel" with a similar piece of metal. I figured it was not supposed to be on there, but, now I wonder.

That's a string guide and no, it's not supposed to be there, among other things.

Thanks. It doesn't look like it belongs there.

There is a "Gospel" on Craigslist (Atlanta), http://atlanta.craigslist.org/wat/msg/1761550071.html

It is most certainly a forgery, for lack of another word. It looks to me to be a Celebrity-III and someone put "Gospel" on the headstock. I would like to see the appraisal by Mr. Gruhn.

What ever the issues with this bass may be it plays beautifully. It has the classic thin mosrite neck, wonderful tone and very easy to play. The proofs in the playing. These instruments are made to be played. I'm happy with purchase for under $ 1000 Australian. If anyone can help me out with original tuners and tone and volume knobs that would be great.
Thanks
Zub

Not to let this thread spin off topic, but I think "forgery" is far from correct, and that someone you are referring to was probably Semie Moseley. With a keen eye you will notice undeniable similarities between that guitar and the infamous Cobain Gospel, which is not a Gospel in the traditional sense but bonafide nonetheless.

Congratulations Zub on your purchase, I was the other member who looked at this bass before it went on ebay, and agree it plays great. I was looking at a new MIJ kurokumo bass at the same time for much the same money and decieded to buy the new bass as it suited my situation better, a daily player that would be gigged regularly. I'm still after a vintage mosrite, just need to save a little more money and bide my time. Hope you enjoy the bass :)

G'day Chris
I am happy with my bass. Its funny how poeple pass judgement without playing an instrument. Its not in mint condition but is fun to play. I am going to change the machineheads and get a pro set up. As I have said the proofs in the playing.

First, I love the name of the band. Best I've heard in awhile. Second, I don't think they were passing judgement as much as they were trying to let you know the details of the bass; and that is why you started this thread. I didn't read anyone saying that it played bad, just that it appears to have been tinkered with.

Personally, I think ya got a gem & I'd love for it to be up on my wall of Mosrites.
