I would have loved to have seen him play it. He truly was a gifted guitar player. I have read that he was at the forefront of the chicken picking style. He also didn't even play guitar until after he was working with Buck Owens. Once he started there was no stopping him. Buck had to beg him to play the fiddle after that. Oh ya, he was a fiddle player up until then.

Yeah, I know Jim. Don is right there at the top, amongst my favourite guitar players. You've just gotta love his sound and style.

Re: MOSRITE PROTOTYPE OOO2 AND 60'S CUSTOM
The Don Rich guitar is a bit of a mystery to me.
Here's an old topic on the list regarding a guitar that is in the Country Music Hall Of Fame. It was Don Rich's, and it's definitely an old Mosrite that has been repainted red white & blue and rebranded "Buckaroo." But--is it the early 0001 guitar? I don't know.

Thanks for digging that up again, Deke; always an interesting topic. I guess we'll not be getting much closer to the matter than that. Good to 'see' you back again, too!

Thanks for the clarification Deke. Also I agree there something unsettling about those clown outfits.
I wonder which guitar would fetch more, Don Rich 001 or the "Ventures" 002?

That starter guitar interests me greatly. Did/does it even have a German Carve on it? It looks like it's an early Ventures II Slab and German Carve all in one!

From Eugene Moles' facebook page:

@Austin: it has no German carve
There's a great picture of #002, too:

And a pic of the Buckaroo at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville:

Those 1962 pre-Ventures Joe Maphis models are one of my most favorite Mosrites,
along with all the other guitars Semie built out therein that tractor shed out on Panama Lane.
And it's just about impossible to fine one in good condition that's half way affordable,
I got a hold of 1962 Joe Maphis #020 here a few years ago, made all sorts of patterns off of it.
Here's a couple of photos of one of the first ones I built.

Thanks for all the photos. What are some of the features on the Pre-Ventures models that the Ventures models don't have?
And when was the student guitar Eugene had (Or has?) made?
