There is only one way it can have paint inside the hole. It had to be there before it was painted.

Sarah;
I'm convinced it's DC0277.
Here are photos of the headstock. The truss rod cover was missing so I made one, when Dean gave me the original, I liked mine better. I still have the cover though.
Can anyone tell me what the two holes are for between the bridge and tailpiece ?
I need to find a nail for the Dobro emblem.

Panther,

I do not believe the two holes on the resonator are original. I've looked at eight other Dobro examples that I have and none of them have the holes. I think you are also correct on the serial number series being "DC". Thank you for the additional photos! She's a beauty.

Sarah;
One more thing about the D0002 Dobro. The closeup photos and the description of the guitar states that it was factory made as a 12 string neck, and converted at the factory to 6 string. Does this sound correct to you, did they make any 12 string Mosrite guitars especially Dobro s ?

Thanks for replying about the strings. And yes, Mosrite made 12 string models. A Ventures model, A Combo model and a Joe Maphis single neck model (As well as a Joe Maphis double neck model) I'm not sure if they made any other 12 string models.

Hi Dan,

I don't think Mosrite ever made a 12 string Dobro. I've never seen nor heard of one and I've never seen it reflected in their collateral material. I think Dobros were meant to be slide guitars anyway so a 12 string might be kinda weird. I don't think that neck was previously a 12 string neck, but rather a standard 6 string Celebrity neck used on the two Dobros as mentioned below.

Mosrite made plenty of 12 string Celebrities. Of the Dobros that I have tracked, most of them have the standard Dobro shaped headstock, like yours (without the "M" cutout). D0001 was the first Dobro made in 1966 as confirmed by Semie and Andy Moseley to Artie Nielsen who is the owner. D0002 and D0003 were made with the regular M headstock and some fancy foil decorating under the clear finish. I would believe that D0002 and D0003 were also made in 1966. In 1966 the Celebrities had mortise and tenon neck joints the Dobros did not. Even the 12 string Celebrities that were made at the time of D0002 and D0003 would have had the mortise and tenon neck joint.

Does anyone have other thoughts on it?

Sarah;
If you examine the photos of D0002 you will see that the close up shot of the head stock clearly shows plugged holes.
BTW did you finds out why the DC instead of just D ?

Hey Sarah, I also thought that Semie did not make any 12 string Dobros and Tym Guitars seems to have
removed ALL things Mosrite on his site :( . But then I came across this....also note the truss rod cover :shock:
