I have not seen a rhyme or reason why the assemblers put them where they did. It almost seems to me that it was a case of personal preference. I have many examples of guitars that are the same model and years and yet the strap pins will be in different locations.

Speaking of strap pins, anyone have any recommendations for the best way to deal with this configuration? Ever since I had a minor accident with the Starfire I've been trying to use some sort of strap lock whenever possible. I usually just use those little plastic disc things that twist on but there's no way they would fit on that configuration. Also, some straps just don't even want to go on when it's in such a tight spot. I do have a thinner strap which gets around that problem but I still worry about it popping off. Man, seeing that lady with the strap on the toggle switch is just making me cringe. Sorry, this is slightly off the original topic but I wanted to jump in as there was a good picture of what I was talking about.

I use a standard Levi's strap, but I put the thin end on the neck/bout and the thick end on the heel. It's been working well for years.

Can anyone tell if she was holding the weight of the guitar with her fretting hand? It seems ridiculous that a strap would even hold on the toggle switch. And with the recent discussion of regular straps not fitting on some celebrities, It may be a case of that.

On my Celebrity, which is the sunburst one shown in a photo in this thread, I use a Martin strap with the same configuration as the Levi's type that Mel mentions, and also use the thin side for the neck button. The thick portion would never fit there.

The Celeb is the only guitar I have without Dunlop StrapLoks, and I am very watchful about that strap slipping off the buttons! I just like the hardware on this guitar too much to tamper with it!

There was a black Martin strap that they gave away to the members of the Martin Owners Club a couple of years ago that was absolutely perfect; same configuration, but with thinner padding on the back than the ones that Martin sells, and even though I made a pest of myself over the issue, offering to buy whatever they had left over from that promotion, they just didn't have any more. I even went to their factory to see what I could find there in their store.

Bummer. That free Martin strap is the best strap I have and I can't find another exactly like it. The fleece or whatever they put on the back of their regular straps is just a tad too thick to suit me. The free one had just the right thickness of leather and fleece.

And those pushbuttons could also be dual-to-single-coil switches, although the bypass option is more common, if the word "common" can be used to describe something as rare as that Celebrity. I got a Mosrite catalog when I got my 350 Stereo in '74, and that variant was in it--could even have been that actual guitar, as the one in the catalog was the same color. Or not--I haven't seen the catalog in 30 years, and I seem to recall that the one in the catalog had black pushbuttons.

Thank you!!

My guess would be she was holding it the way she did just for the photoshoot and not for playing. She may even have been just a model and not having any clue of guitars :|

There was a 350 variant that had one of those pushbuttons, in place of the mono/stereo slide switch--it was an out-of-phase switch. All these switch variations are proof that Semie must have been running a virtual custom shop as well as a factory! And that page was indeed from the catalog I had--I remember thinking that the model had to have been quite short if she had to hook the strap on the pickup selector to get the guitar to hang right!
