Re: Newbie, with some Celebrity questions

Hey Guys, thanks again for all your help, this is truly a great forum! I'm going to try the sandpaper first. If that doesn't work, a friend of mines father repairs stereo equipment, he's going to look at it and try to fix it. Also, if in a worst case scenario I need a new jack, does anyone know the size of the jacks, or where online to get one?

Also, I posted a video for my friend who gave me the guitar to hear it brought to life. I'm doing a horrible job with Davy Graham's "Anji" but here is the link if you'd like to check it out!

Thanks,
Joe

Hey, Thanks! Been working at it for years.

So I fixed the input jack, just needed to push it a little closer, but while I had the control plate off, I saw that there were two screw holes that were cracked, so it looks like I'm going to have to get a self locking nut to make sure everything is snug and tight, at the moment there are two screws that don't stay in, and two that are lose. Anyone have to deal with this before? Any ideas on what to do?

Joe, I'm not sure I understand the 'self locking nut to make sure everything is snug and tight.' As for the screws falling out, I'm guessing you are referring to the scratchplate (pickguard) screws?
If you are referring to those, that's a quick fix as well  . Simply just break off the end of a wooden toothpick, and insert it into where the screw would go. That's it, you are good to go!
What you have just done was to make it possible to 're-thread' the hole, as when you put the screw back in, it will actually re-thread itself ;) .

Hey Dennis, it's actually the control plate. for some reason, part of it cracked off around the screws, so they fit in, but don't screw (and dont stay in at all without the plate on top) imagine the screw hole, that is broken off at the very end of the wood on the body, it's like trying to screw something into a crescent moon (hope thats a good analogy)

hey Joe,

I know exactly what you're talking about. do you have the chip of pickguard that broke off? does the pickguard stays on okay, or is it loose?

if you want I could work on the guitar for ya. I'm only about an hour and 40 minute drive from your town. I actually do this professionally. if not let me know if I can help out any other way.
Cheers,
Aaron

Here are some photo's of the issue. The first one is the bottom most screw on the control plate, which is completely nicked off, and the second is the screw above it. Aaron I sent you a PM, I may be very interested in getting my guitar to you!

kewl. just as a recommendation, I'd get a humidifier going for this guitar with this wintery dry air.
