Maphis Doubleneck at CME

Postby Dnepr » Sat Jul 25, 2009 5:45 pm

Hey,
Are any of you familiar with this guitar?
http://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/mos ... k/i-72127/
I've spoken with a few salespeople over the phone and gotten less info than I'd like before I make the 4 hr. drive.
Thanks in advance

Dnepr.
Except for the BBBB on the back of the body, she seems to be a very clean instrument,
and I'm assuming it has the original case (although it was not mentioned).......
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

The pics look great, and I've been told that it's all original. I'm a little concerned regarding the necks and fret life as I've gotten varying reports. I'm not sure if it's just that they were unfamiliar with Mosrite frets, or if the frets really are almost gone.
I'm planning on heading out there soon anyways, so what the heck...

I'm not sure what you mean by "regarding the necks." As far as the frets, I'd be willing to bet that they are looking at the 'speed frets' thinking they are worn down, however this could work to YOUR ADVANTAGE  . When you go out there to check the Mo' and if the frets are nothing more than the normal speed frets, Still go ahead and agree with them in that 'THEY WERE RIGHT' about the worn frets  ......Pause for a few seconds, and while they are trying to figure out if they still have a potential customer, hit them back with something like,...."Well, how much lower can you go since we are all in agreement that BOTH Necks will need Fret Jobs??? Heck, they might drop a few hundred bucks just to keep you interested.... Good Luck on your Purchase ;).....the Menace

Chicago Music has some nice pieces, but they all seemed to be priced for city-dwelling hipsters with good desk jobs. Don't these sort of JM doublenecks come up on ebay fairly frequently all in the 2500 range? Seems like I see people pricing them for more, but I never see of them actually SELL for more than 2500...

Dennis your right, it can't hurt. I'm just bitter...... they never lower their price. That thing has been there for 5+ years.

Thanks for the info guys. I have a few pieces that they were interested in, but maybe I'll just got the other route.
