1973 Archtop

Postby handbrake » Sun Oct 11, 2009 3:51 pm

1973 Archtop. Of course, very Celebrity looking but a true semi-hollowbody with bracing and such. A bit of a project since it did not arrive complete. Did a rewire and added the best period pickups I could find.

Maybe that's because it is a Celebrity. ;)

That may be the case, but it FEELS completely different from my 60s Celebrity. More sustain, wider neck, side jack, individual controls, stoptail instead of trem/trapeze, et cetera. In my mind they're two different instruments. But I'm certainly not above calling it a Celebrity. 8-)

Well, that's because the '70s iteration of the Celebrity is different from the '60s, and if I remember correctly, your '60s is one of the import bodies, which is different still. But hey, call it whatever you want.

Hey, I wonder if anyone can check my wiring pattern. I've got the neck volume and tone controls set to the knobs at 12 and 3 o'clock, respectively (and relative to the picture below). The bridge volume and tone controls are at 9 and 6 o'clock, respectively. I'm wondering if I've got the neck and bridge rows reversed. Any thoughts?

Nice looking guitar. Your wiring sounds like the standard Gibson wiring. Whether it's proper on a Mosrite I don't know, but it makes sense to me.

Thanks, Mel. A friend of mine has a Epiphone with neck controls on the inside row and bridge controls on the outside, so I became curious about the conventional arrangement.

On a related note, did anyone else notice this 60s "archtop" on eBay?
