SEMIE'S REBUILD OF JOE'S ORIGINAL DOUBLENECK (1985)ClOSEUP

Hi All: I searched for maybe a photo that had not been posted of a front view
of this guitar. Dennis commented about the previous one was not a good angle, which I agree. It is also posted on http://elainefrizzell.com go to Doubleneck Link
and click twice on this picture on that page. You can blow it up so big you can see
a dust speck on it. When Semie came out to Calif. to give me the guitar, it was
in a Massive Presention Case, made of Zebrawood,Maplewood and several Fine
Hardwoods. It is completly Dovetailed and Doweled. The only metal is the Hinge
and Marine Handle's. There was also a space to someday place the Original Octave
Neck in it, which now has been fullfilled. Soon after receiving the guitar we had a Mosrite Carpet(Black) style case made for it, so it would be practical to carry it in.
The Presentation Case weigh's about 75lbs without the guitar in it. The Doubleneck
weigh's almost 25lbs. It's heavy. I want to bring these items out to Anaheim with the Original Octave neck. Transportation and Security is a big thing. I have to fly out in Jan. and the logistics of such a transport is of concern. We are working on it. I would
never transport this kind of item where I had to take my eye's off it.

PS: Man!!!! DENNIS I am a old lady this thing is getting HEAVY!!!!!

Elaine,

So that I understand correctly, are you saying this is Joe's original doubleneck from the Town Hall Party day's and that Semie rebuilt it and gave it to you? Or, is it a copy of the original?

Dear dubtrub. The Guitar is a Copy of the Original. The renecked reworked Original Guitar is in the Country Music Hall Of Fame here in Nashville. The only part of that
guitar that is original is the BODY. Semie and Joe went there in the begining of the rebuild to make an exact trace of the Original BODY only. Original spec's on the NECKs
were already available as were the Original specs on the GINGERBREAD ARMREST,
PICKGUARDS, JACK PLATE etc. SEMIE knew what he did on the Original and because
so many MOD'S were done between 1954 and 1963 when it was stripped of Necks and Gingerbread. There were again a few parts from the Original that were found that when
it could be used Semie used them. Semie was a master of Refinish, Refurbish, Restoring
and Resurfacing and Polishing. This is not the actual Original Guitar the Original
Doubleneck with the Original Big Headstocks and such no longer exists. That's the
reason this project was so Historical it was a shame, before this Guitar was rebuilt
between 1983 & 1985 that the Original was gone. To me it was the most beautiful Instrument ever built.

Semie said after the long project was over "I knew what I was doing this time. "No Goof
Plates. I was just a kid learning on the first one" God Bless you Semie. There have been
several comments over the years of those that have seen it up close. "You could
put it on a Turntable and just admire Semie's Work and never play it and it would
amaze you" Those that know Terry at TNM can ask him of his opinion. I would argue
that this is Semie's Holy Grail and I am not the only one. The Original was Over The Top.
Semie sure brought what was Gone Forever Back for all to see what once was.

Luv Elaine

Elaine,
Was THIS the guitar that I recall reading an interview with Semie in the back of one of the guitar magazines (Guitar Player?) sometime around '85 or '86? He also happened to mention something about the handle on the vibrato was 'courtesy of a handle from a Bus!?!?!?' .....that doesn't sound 'rite. but with Uncle Semie, I would not doubt anything at this point.

Yeah, I was aware of that. What threw me was you referring to your guitar as a 'rebuild' not a copy or new build.

BTW, if you get a chance, review some of the old post here on the forum. A lot of stuff that we discussed in the past I'm sure you will find interesting and may want to contribute or elaborate. We have probably discussed everything imaginable about Mosrite and still find something new all the time.

OK Dennis on the handle. When Original Octave Neck was removed in 1963. It was
given back to Joe and he had it installed on the inside panel of their Motorhome door.
Just before Joe passed on it was removed. The mention of the Vibrado Arm may have
just been a remark Semie or I made about the precise detail that was being paid
attention to. The Guitar Player is Sept. 1990 you are refering to.

To Danny I used the word rebuild in the form such as a house been destroyed or a house burning down and being rebuilt back the was it was. This guitar in fact no longer
existed in the form prior to 1963 and Semie and I always refered to it as "In process of rebuilding the Doubleneck and bringing something back that was no more. Call it COPY,
REPRODUCTION, REBUILDING ???.

The story of how this all happened would take a book. I am not sure even that would
stop some people from HOW? WHAT? WHEN? WHERE? WHY?. There are fans & critic's and several in some ways, kind of wished Semie had never built this recreation, copy if you wish. That in some way it was not right to bring a Historical Guitar back in such a precise way. In the last 14 years since March 1985 99.9% of the folks I have met
or heard from have had great comments. But to the extreme there were two
attempts to vandalize the guitar in some small way over the last 14 years, it never happened but makes one aware. Sick but true. Why? ask those that key cars. This is a not so nice world we live in sometimes. I have always been aware of someone upset or fanatic. All I can say is that Semie AND Joe enjoyed see the old guitar rebuilt from the ground up or what ever makes someone happy. I know they felt that way and some of the private expressions of LOVE that it was done is well worth it. Joe gave his blessing and played it several times after I got it. He autographed a statement to the affect on one of my "DEMO WHITE LABEL COLUMBIA 33 1/3 ALBUMS of "FIRE ON THE STRINGS". The same day Semie presented me with it. Joe and Rosie were there. Brian Lonbeck was there also it was a special day.
Luv:-)

Elaine,
Thank you for clearing that up for me. As time marches on, I tend to forget certain things or the sequence of events that take place in guitar history.
I knew I read it somewhere and at least I got the "Guitar Player" Magazine part right (LOL!). And yeah, Motorhome, not a Bus............................
Now that makes sense. Thanks! ;)
