Hi guys, need a little help. I've been offered a Joe Maphis model 1 but as I'm no expert could use your help again. The guitar says Joe Maphis Model 1 but I've noticed some guitars don't have the number 1 on and others do. Also the truss rod cover looks like its a replacement it looks more like a Gretsch cover and I've also seen some without a truss rod above the nut. I'm confused :?: I have been told that copies were made and passed off as real Mosrite. Even more confused. I have fixed the Combo without adjusting the neck and have to say it feels lovely I may go back and tweek the neck a bit but now I'll just enjoy playing. Thanks again. Regards Cliff.

I'm no expert but I've never heard of copies of the Joe Maphis models. What you may have heard is Joe Maphis guitars made out of leftover Mosrite parts when the company went out of business in 1968. (Don't take my word for it though) Also, In 1967 or so Mosrite Ventures/Mark I guitars got truss rod covers. Perhaps the Joe Maphis guitars also got the same treatment?

I don't seem to recall any copies of Maphis Models either although I would not put anything past anyone making copies of Mo's.
However there were copies of the 'Combo Models' by Firstman in which the body style was identical, only difference was that
the 'Combo' had the single F-hole......

Thanks Trent ;) . I was trying to do a 'Search' for a 'Firstman Combo' (from the late 60s-early 70s?) that we all
had a discussion about on another thread sometime back, but now can no longer call it up....oh well...........
