Interesting serial number on this Celebrity

Postby Sarah93003 » Sat Jul 16, 2011 10:31 pm

I've never heard mention of Mosrite selling "seconds". And, I've never seen a "serial number" like this stamped on a Celebrity. I'm not sure what to make of it. Partsrite maybe? Any ideas?

It doesn't necessarily imply that the guitar is a 'second' but perhaps there is a 1st as well. 8-) :?

Maybe Semie was visiting North Dakota and made 2 guitars while he was there? Just a guess.

Could be. I don't know what to make of it. Perhaps it was a "give away" guitar, or a partsrite that someone decided to stamp that way. On the other hand, I don't know if I've seen any partsrites from this era.

I was kidding. I have never seen a Mosrite neck stamped in this fashion as well.

Hey, I don't discount any theory! I can show you the serial number Semie stamped into a Celebrity prototype that was the man's birthdate 62948 (6/29/1948).

Yes I heard from a couple of sources Semie would stamp just about anything on the neck.

Not such a bad thought. the "2" could also denote "To" (as in gift to someone) :?
