Found a cool Maphis Double at Rumble Seat Music for a cool $3800

I can only but agree with you. I'd love to play one for a while, but that will probably never happen

They have had it for some time. There store is just full of great guitars.

Not really a bad price. I have sold to him before.He gives you top dollar and also gets top dollar.I sold him a guitar at a show once and he seems to be a nice guy.He was walking around the show with a vendors apron full of $100.00 bills

I've often wondered about doublenecks being heavy...I imagine standing on stage with one of these all night would not be in the fun category! S'pose most folks have a second guitar on stage, and only use these for occasional numbers.

I thought the same thing. Elaine Frizzell told me the secret is to strap them pretty high up. It changes how the stress goes to your shoulders, I think. I did as she suggested and played a Gretsch Duo-Jet doubleneck for nearly two hours with no fatigue. It weighed 14 lbs. I don't know the weight of the Maphis doublenecks, but I sure like them!

The Mosrite doublenecks from that era are not nearly so heavy. Standard Ventures models are already pretty light, and these just as a bit more body and an extra neck, but I'm sure they're nowhere near 14 lbs. Maybe 9, which is no more than your average Les Paul.

Some are head heavy and are always attempting to bite the dust, and some are well balanced. I had a candy red JM twin and sold it due this reason. The 12 string neck really jangled good with all that wood. It was a real nice player. I sold it to some dude who had to have it.

The Gretsch Duo Jet doublenecks are really hard to find. It's the best one I've ever played. Very well balanced. The BC Rich doubleneck is an awesome guitar but very neck heavy. I figured out how to alter a strap though and that takes care of it.
