Bob Bogle three knob bass?

As has been mentioned before, Bob Bogle has a three knob, no toggle, dual pickup top-jack bass in the picture below. Was this a custom for him, or were any other Mosrite basses made this way? I wonder where the bass is now. As an aside, were there any side jack dual pickup basses made?

Mel,
Yes this particular Bass was Custom Fit with a Bridge Pick-Up in '64 for Bob. I remember Semie telling us about
this particular Bass when we were in Jonas Ridge. To this date, I have not heard or seen any others like this,
but knowing Uncle Semie, I wouldn't put anything past him!......Any Side Jack Dual P'up Basses?.......
darn GOOD Question...I think this might be a Bob K or Dorkrockrecords (Adam) Question....I have no clue.....

I just checked the data in my spread sheet and I have info on 68 Ventures basses. There are 7 sidejacks in the group:
#5000 - the very first one made, owned by Artie at Front Porch Music. Single ply pick guard, smooth spun knobs

#5002 - Mine. The only one with Guild knobs, mute bridge, 3 ply pick guard

#5008 - 6 string bass owned by Artie

#5012 - California blue, featured on the "Knock Me Out" album. Resides in Japan (I lust after this one!)

#5025 & #5028 - single ply pick guard and spun knobs

#5035 - Stripped and routed for a bridge pickup (I have it - somewhere!)

In looking at the 64's, I don't have one with 3 knobs

None of the sidejacks had dual pickups - all single.

Also of note, #5002 and #5008 had black-faced headstocks. All of the others were sunburst. Mine is the only one with the extra large Ventures logo with no "The". Mine is definitely unique, special and rare.

So, was there a Mosrite bass before the Ventures model? A Joe Maphis bass perhaps? I wonder what Semie's thought process was in having only one pickup, and how the second pickup came to be an option - was it originally by request of Bob Bogle, perhaps seeking more treble to cut through at live shows, or just a logical upgrade?

Yes and No..... No, it was not a Joe Maphis Bass (at least I'm not aware of one). However, back in 1958-59, Semie had built (maybe special order?) a Sunburst Bass with one pick up on it and Binding on the Body. The STRANGE thing about this Bass was, although it was a Lefty, it looked more like a right handed "Ventures Model" turned upside down. Now the thing that stinks about this, is I can't find a pic of this Beast. But I'm sure there are some members on the Forum that remember seeing this Bass. I also believe that the owner of that Bass had actually put it on E-Bay in the past year or two. I even tried checking our own Photo Gallery with no luck. Again, I know some members have seen this Bass.....

Wow, that's cool - I've looked at the Tym site dozens of times and never really focused on that before. I wish you could see larger versions of those pictures!
