Mosrite Knobs Falling Off? Simple fix.

On some Mosrites, the knobs are a press-fit. Over time, they wear out, and do not hold on. A good example of this is Ricky Wilson's 1966 MK V model, which was missing a knob when it was photographed for the first B-52s album.

In order to prevent loss of a hard to find M Knob or Spun Knob, you can simply use a drop of superglue.



Alternatively, use some Thread Locker.



Actually, we guitar players should probably use Thread Locker (bought at a car parts store) on different things anyway. I was tired of the pickup selector switch tip (and ring) coming off on my 66 Mosrite, so I used it there. I also used it on the output jack ring, and it works wonderfully; none of the parts ever come loose anymore. I'd suggest using this on guitar tuners, too: it can hold the bushing on, and if it's a cheap acoustic tuner with the screw holding the gear on the post, you can also use it there.

When you have loose press-on knobs, the culprit is usually the pot's split shaft. Using a small flat tip screwdriver, gently bend the two sides of the shaft outward, creating a better grip on the knob's knurling. Be extremely careful not to bend the them too far as the aluminum shaft prongs can be brittle if flexed too radically.
