In order to prevent loss of a hard to find M Knob or Spun Knob, you can simply use a drop of superglue.
Alternatively, use some Thread Locker.

Actually, we guitar players should probably use Thread Locker (bought at a car parts store) on different things anyway. I was tired of the pickup selector switch tip (and ring) coming off on my 66 Mosrite, so I used it there. I also used it on the output jack ring, and it works wonderfully; none of the parts ever come loose anymore. I'd suggest using this on guitar tuners, too: it can hold the bushing on, and if it's a cheap acoustic tuner with the screw holding the gear on the post, you can also use it there.
