Mosrite Ventures 65

Good day all,

I've recently come into possesion of a Japanese Mosrite Ventures 65.
The seller has got the guitar directly from Japan and has claimed the year to be around 84-85. I've got no papers to go with it, so I'm really curious what year and factory it is.

Serial on the fretboard is 8504 and almost all of hardware the looks authentic and has Mosrite logo, apart from the tunning heads and strap buttons I'd say. There are just a handful of minor scratches on the body, frets seems to look original, yet there's damage of the lacquer on the sides of the fretboard which looks to have been caused by the moisture.

I'm not really concerned with value, simply loved the colour and feel of the guitar, so my main objective is to clarify the year of birth if it's possible at all, if there are any additional details to share I'd really appreciate them.

Welcome. Your Mosrite looks nice to me, though all I can say now is that it's a more modern one. I don't know when, only that the neck plate being square (and not asymmetrical) is typical of 1970s Firstman "Mosrite" Avenger models, and maybe it's also on ones from the 1980s, but that's a subject I'm not well versed in, myself.

A few good places to take more photos would be the text for the tailpiece (to see if it says "Vibramute" or "Moseley,") a close-up of the bottoms of the pickups, and a close-up of the knobs might help if someone else chimes in.

Also, I edited your post to add the photos. When you post images here, you need to right-click on the image at the site you have it hosted at, then select "copy link address" from the menu that pops up, then put it in-between the "Img" brackets that you can get by pressing the "Img" button beneath the subject box, but above the topic text / reply text box.

I've recently contacted Tym guitars from Australia, he has also replied that the guitar looks closer to modern Kurokumo 2000s / 2010s production but he didn't shed any details on why it is that way.

Oh, and I've also sent a letter in Japanese to Kurokumo (thanks, Googletranslate) to find out the age, found the email adress here on the forums, doubt that will work out though

The guitar had no papers yet a thin Mosrite gigbag, but that could be from any era.

Sending some more pictures, thanks for the heads up with posting. Will provide some more if needed, my phone seems to bug out when I'm trying to capture the pickups through the strings.

The photos aren't showing up, you got part of the idea right for posting them, though.

If you were on a computer, you'd need to go to each page that each image is hosted on, then right-click on it and select "copy image link" from the drop-down menu. That link is a separate link from the page that the photo is hosted on. Once you have such a link, you put it between the image brackets.

I don't know how to do this on a phone, if it's an option.

I did go to each image's page. If you are going to re-string it any time soon, removing the pickups to photograph their bottoms might give some further clues. But this is something I'm unfamiliar with, it's just that perhaps there are some manufacturing stickers located there.

Looks like I was missing a "slash" before the 2nd img bracket and couldn't find how to edit my post.
Hope it's fixed now.

The guitar has been sold with fresh strings on, yet I don't mind removing the pick-ups to shed some light on it and replacing the Ernie Balls with something more fancy.

Do I need to check into some other internal parts while I am at it?

The pictures are now working, yes.

If you check the potentiometers for any date codes (if those are on the pots,) then that might also narrow down then your guitar was manufactured.
