New (Second) Mosrite Inspired Build

This is the second Mosrite inspired guitar that I have built. Ash body with maple neck (walnut cap on headstock), P90s from Guitarfetish, 1 vol and 1 tone, 3-way switch.

Gee, Perry; that is most attractive, and an interesting, well-thought-out approach. Not a slavish copy, but very business-like, indeed!

I like your headstock shape, and the natural-wood finish is very cool. Set neck or bolt-on?

Thanks, Jim. The neck is set in and ends just before the "slope" of the pickguard between the the pickups. Speaking of pickguards, making that one was perhaps the most difficult part of building this guitar.

Thanks to everyone who has responded. I'm still in the process of tweaking the set-up, particularly adjusting the relief in the neck and height of the pickups. I like the sound. This is my first P90 guitar. I haven't decided yet if I will keep the guitar for myself or try to sell it.

I didn't use a template. I traced the outline of a Robin Raider some years ago on a piece of cardboard and use that as my pattern with some modifications. I may need to make a new pickguard because the one on the guitar now is a little too thick. As you can see in the photos, the bridge overhangs the pickguard on the treble side. I believe I was accounting for a thickness of around 1/16th of an inch when I set the neck. The thickness of the pickguard is around 3/32, which doesn't allow me to lower the treble side of the bridge for the best string height above the 12th fret. However, adjusting the neck relief a little may allow me to get a 1/16th gap between the 12th fret and the first string. That's what I generally set my guitars at--1/16th on the high and low E strings.
