TKL - Squeaky handles - SOLVED!

Postby MWaldorf » Mon Nov 16, 2009 7:26 pm

Has anyone experienced squeaky handles on their Hallmark / TKL guitar cases? I've got a couple and both go "squeak squeak squeak" as I carry the case anywhere. Maybe it's just me, but I'm ready to cut the handles off and put on old-style leather buckle handles.

How strange...no problem here (mine's the crocodile motiv). Are you sure it's the handle...
Surely a wee-drop-a "Three In One Oil" would cure the ailment?! ....and otherwise a mouse trap???

Hey Mel, sometimes one of my guitars goes "quack, quack, quack"............but that's because it's a Strat :D :D :D

Good luck pal ;)

Mel, I have 2 Hallmark cases and one has the plastic handle and the other has a leather handle. I don't have any squeaks in either of them.

If I were you I would drill a small hole in both ends of the handle and install grease fittings and make sure it is full of grease. That should solve the problem. LOL

Hmmm. Mine have the plastic handles. I've got 3 in 1 oil handy, I'll give that a try.

My alligator has the squeaks too. Let me know if any of the "oil" products work.
And I discovered that if you leave the guitar at home (maybe accidentally), that the empty case doesn't sqeak near as bad.

Try getting a little vaseline or chap stick inside between the handel and the pin that goes through it.You can use a q-tip or a toothpick.Chapstick will last longer because it it thicker. I have a Jaguar from 65 with the same problem and it works every time :) Let me know how you make out.....using oil can make a real mess!

graphite would be my choice, its dry and wont collect dust and debris.

Mel, if your 3 in one oil is a CLP gun oil product, you must be careful and know that CLP can eat/dissolve some types of plastic!
Other that that, you can try with a light coat of grease, but use very little so that it wont gunk up your handle. Like Jnslobaugh said, graphite might work better though.

I believe that Dennis and I were just having some light hearted fun on how to solve the problem.
