The last few months I've been wanting to finally get my hands on a "real" Mosrite. And I've been looking at the Japan made Mosrite Classics.
I don't really feel I have the money to invest in i high end Mosrite. So I thought I'd go for the cheapest of the bunch. The RG-1966 for about $1500 in Sweden.
That's a still a lot of money for the cheapest of the bunch. Is it worth it? How does it compare to other guitars in that price range? Non Mosrites that is...
Also, are these the Fillmore Mosrites? Or am I missing something?
I'm still trying to understand all the makes and models of these new Mosrites. So if it's been discussed before I'm sorry for asking, but I haven't found any "Modern Mosrites for dummies"-threads around here.
Are they worth the money?

Hejsan Konk,
Or come down to Copenhagen and buy my Mosrite Excellent: http://www.dba.dk/asp/soegning/detail.a ... d=60249365
All about it in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=648
The vibro issues we talk about has been fixed and was no biggie.
I've realised that deep down I really want a real vintage Mosrite.....this is gonna cost me a whole bunch.

Well, I wasn't planning on buying right now. But after I got my apartment sold, hopefully in a month or two... I'll check in with you when the time has come. If you still have it for sale, I might just buy it. It's not too much of a trip down there.
I was however a bit in love with the light blue w. white pickguard paintjob. But that white one is lovely and I might just have to have one of those instead.
I would also love to want a sunburst, because they are the classic Mosrites in my eyes. But I don't think they are as nice looking somehow.

Hi ET, do you have your heart set on a Ventures Mark I or something else?

I'm currently checking out a Joe Maphis model I. The shop is putting on new frets at the moment. It's been played a lot and the neck has that vintage feel no new guitar can get. But it's a big guitar to handle...
And, yes, a genuine Mark I wouldn't be too bad

The JM is a full-sized guitar, for sure. Good luck in your search. I was thinking about a visit to DK sometime in the next year. Would be happy to provide courier service for that special guitar if you locate one over here.

Re: Are they worth the money?
No worries about the hijacking. Still curious if the Japan made Mosrite Classics are worth the money? They cost more than some pretty nice Gibsons. Hopefully not just because they look cool and look enough like the originals to charge that much for them.
Gibsons and Fenders I'm so bored of. Mosrites still, after all these years, look cool and new.

Re: Are they worth the money?
Those are really Mosrite Rangers (models RG-1966 and RG-1965). You will find much more information if you do a search by the word "Ranger". And yes, they are made by Fillmore.
I have the 1965 model (the main difference is the bridge - '65 is with Vibramute, and '66 has the Moseley bridge). Got lucky and found mine used at 800 euros here. It immediately became my #1 tool for both of the styles that I play; before I mostly used a Fender Jaguar (for instrumental surf) and Ramo'ed Mosrite Mark II (for punk).
So for me, the Ranger was well worth the money I spent, and would have been worth even more. It is absolutely true that you will be able to buy a good Gibson with the same money - it is really up to what you need. If you need a Mosrite Mark I, this is a good choice. The guitar looks great, but it is also a very well made instrument with a playability that I like.
P.S. If you want to hear sound samples, you can find some at our MySpace page: www.myspace.com/thesilverhawksband ...I played the Ranger on all of them, lead parts on "Teriyaki", "Astro City Skyline" and "AY398", and rhythm on the other tunes.

This concludes my report from outer space. Now, back to studio!
