Re: Computer going down
I've burned out seven old AT motherboards since the beginning of 2007. I had them so I used them.
Earlier this week I bought an Antec ATX case with a 380 watt Antec EarthWatts power supply and put in my Asus motherboard with an AMD 550 MHz K6-2 CPU.
It works really nice except for the Windows ME operating system which is a real clunker, IMHO.
Just experimenting with Windows ME on an old hard drive I bought at a local computer shop near NASA's Johnson Space Center as I had never seen it before.
Am currently searching eBay for even more motherboards with CPUs, heat sinks, fans and memory for spares.
I really like building and modifying computers. My ideal computer is completely generic parts, so if I lose a power supply, for instance, I don't have to beg the mighty bloodsuckers at Dell to sell me a new one for ~$500.

Dennis,
If you are running Windows, you may wish to run the Scandisk and Defrag utilities on your hard drive and see if that will smooth things out.

Thanks SurfCat, but I think it's BEYOND that. I've had my buddy fix this a few times in the past. The way I see it, it's time for it's 60,000 mile tune up
