HI TimR,
That is what really threw me. According to the information available on JustStrings.com, the Daddarios are a higher strength string than the GHS's, by almost two pounds per string (16 pounds average for the D'addarioss versus 14.6 pounds average for the GHS set) so when I lost tension it was a total surprise. By the way, I switched to the smaller spring as soon as I got the guitar. After changing the strings I was more upset about the neck relief than I was about the position of the vibrate position. I don't use the vibrato that much. It is somewhat comforting to see that you encountered the same phenomenon.

Re: Hallmark 60's Custom & string change problems
Well, I finally decided to take the guitar to an expert, just to make sure that all of my adjustments had not done any damage. The pro was very impressed with the guitar as it was but told me that he could improve the action a little if I wanted him to. I really didn't think that he would be able to do much, but I trust this guy so I let him have the guitar overnight. The next afternoon when I picked up the guitar I could not believe what he had done. Just taking the instrument out of the case, by the neck, I could feel a difference in the action. he has set the string height at 4/64th" on the low E (22nd fret) and 3/64th at the high E (same fret). The action is rediculousely (sp?) low and I now have a real problem putting the guitar down. He set my pick-up heights comparable to other Mosrites that he has set up, and they really sound good.
All in all, I feel better now that I know that I didn't do any damage and that someone who knows what he is doing had the chance to touch my Custom.

Hey Don, good to know all's well again with the neck and that you're a happy player once more!
How much did your guitar tech lower the p'ups (if he did), do you know? I was wondering if my Hallmark's p'ups may be a little too close to the strings for my kind of playing i.e. my attack

Re: Hallmark 60's Custom & string change problems
i'm experiencing this with my Hallmark Custom 60 although it started when I switched to 9's, I assume they're too low tension (Ernie Ball) as the strings started buzzing up to the 6-7 fret. Raising the action helped only slightly so I'm gonna add relief. Can you adjust it without taking the strings off?
Even with the buzzing I can't put it down as it plays so flawlessly, and had no buzz with 10's but prefer the 9's on this

Re: Hallmark 60's Custom & string change problems
Hydra,
When I adj. the neck on my 60 Custom I loosen all the strings, take the front pickup out and tape it back to the pick guard and tune back to pitch. I have found that with mine at least it is very sensitive to adjustments on the truss rod. I would bet you need to back off just a small bit of tension. I would also guess that with the lighter gage strings it has a very slight back bow starting around the 3rd fret. That would cause it to buzz at the lower frets. If it played great with 10's it will with 9's. 9's may need the action set just a tad higher though to be buzz free. It may also need to set for a bit of time to let the new rod setting stabilize. I leave mine over night and check again to be sure it stayed where I set it. At least half the time it will need to be tweaked a bit again. Enjoy playing it, they are great guitars.
