Yes Mel. Actually, it's the very same Combo I traded in two years ago due to too much feedback when played in El Ray with tons of reverb. I also find it sounds 'quite' different to the Maphis which has a firmer sound to my ears.

Okay guy's, here's what I thought and still think ElTwang was saying.

He found a Joe Maphis (JM) that he could trade his Mosrite Excellent plus a 2006 Gretsch Penguin, in to purchase the Joe Maphis (JM) model.

Or, He could trade in his Mosrite Excellent plus a 2006 Gretsch Penguin, in on a 1966 Jazzmaster (instead) of the Joe Maphis.

Isn't that what was said by ElTwang or am I totally asleep?

And no, ElTwang there is no language problems on your part.

Sorry for the confusion. I thought it sounded like you were warning him not to trade a Jazzmaster, I didn't see that he also had the Gretsch for trade at the time. (I edited my post to reflect the fact he would also trade the Gretsch)

Didn't mention S/N, however he said it was a '66 judging it by its pots. But that just means that it also could be a '67 as well ;) ....

Thanks for all the comments and replies. I've put the trade on hold. Suggested another guitar in the trade to go my way with the Maphis but we can't settle so that's it for now.

Here's another JM (http://www.grouseguitars.com.au/sold/mosrite.htm) with some details including the quote below.
Serial number is D560 - the "D" denotes its the Joe Maphis model (this particular model ran from 1966 to 1971). Pots are dated 47th week of 1966.

[edit]I think pots from the 47th week effectively means a guitar from 1967.[/edit] Since the Joe Maphis in DK has a full trem and a lower serial number, can we conclude it's a '66?

Well....hard to say, but the pots are suggesting late '66, which is why I had mentioned it might even be
a '67 (but a very early one). On the other hand, if the body and neck was already put together waiting for the pots......?? :| .
