'Dunno about most of you, but most playing (except bass at chrurch, standing) is done at home, sitting down. Usually kind of slouching.
For a number of years, 'used the living room sofa, then a drummer's throne, then the sofa again.
Recently, youngest daughter moved out and her bedroom was seized to make a music room. 'Bought a double-wide papa-san chair and added extra pillows, also moved a big leather loveseat in, which was another good alternative. 'Have a cranky back, so one position, especially sitting, is not fun for a long time.
But 'was really wondering about proper playing posture and all that boo-boo. A buddy bought a Soundseat last fall and dang, it was nice. The local SA had a few with their name embroidered thereon, but does not sell them. Sat in one every visit there. They kind of grew on one.
Anyway, couple weeks ago, the music room was really coming along and 'elected to buy a Soundseat.
Thumbs up. Freaking great chair to do good playing posture and all, 'Can see it fitting like an old pair of boots in a couple years. Quality is outstanding, heavy leather, serious steel, good every-component, and top notchcustomer service, too. Packard Motor Car COmpany used to say, "Ask the man who owns one."
What do you folks sit in, or do you play standing up?

Re: Guitar and one's posterior
For sitting practice, a folding wooden deck chair with no arm rests. Slouching is impossible, and no sore butt because I get up and practice a bit I'm working on standing as well. I try to stay off the couch, even when picking tunes off the TV (recently figured out the theme song to "You Only Live Twice" as an instrumental). Also, I often walking from room to room in the house. When there is commotion in the household, I'll stroll into a bathroom for the nice acoustics. When plugged in, it's the deck chair or standing near the amp.

Re: Guitar and one's posterior
......................................
I’ve never felt comfortable sitting on chairs, sofa’s etc when not gigging (always standing) and for years I have always been lusting for one of those attractive barstools you see in guitar shops only, with a Gibson or Fender logo on 'em but not for sale to the general public.
I've been wishing for something similar but always been putting it off "for another day" ....and to my pleasant surprise the shop where I bought my AVRI Fender ’57 Strat recently was selling them! So now my old butt is finally having a treat on this nice one (made in China, heh heh).

Re: Guitar and one's posterior
I'm wierd, I guess. I actually prefer standing while playing.
