Re: mosrite+vox ac 30
I tried something similar last Sunday, for the first time. Played my Hallmark 60 Custom through a blonde Vox AC-30 amp. You can read my ‘report’ in the “Hallmark 60 Custom” thread; just scroll down to May 18

Personally, I prefer a Fender amp to compliment the Hallmark’s (Mosrite) character. Now if only Fender would truly duplicate their famous and successful models of the sixties we would know exactly what to expect when buying a 're-issue' without needing to make mods or even 'change-backs'...

Purists please beware: modeling amp subject posting!
'Have an old Line 6 Vetta I HD and 412 slant, and it is the most oft used amp by this picker (no tubes to wear out).
Despite the L6's tones not being pure, they are close enough for here; 'am not one of those few, fortunate people blessed with "dog ears" when it comes to amps.
Therefore, 'tend to phart around with different "amps" from the 30+ options on the Vetta. Finally getting to the point:
In this opinion, the Mk I does not by any measure sound its best through the Vetta's "AC-30" setting. Or maybe this picker just is not too much a class A type. The "Matchless Cheiftain" setting however, is rather nice, tho also a class A model. Go figure.

When one finally gets to have 'that sound' with one's amp-and-guitar combination, enjoy and don't change that winning team. As long as you're satisfied, brand names don't seem that important anymore -or whether it's tubes or transistors grinding out that desirable tone...

Re: mosrite+vox ac 30
I played through Tube Amps for over 25 years I never dreamed I would not use one. I currently have a room full of Tube Amps, 1964 Fender Super Reverb, 1964 Fender Vibroverb, 1965 Fender Bassman, 1965 Fender Vibro-Champ, Fender Champion 600, Fender Pro Junoir, Gomez Reverb Amp, Marshall Plexi Half Stack. A few months ago I ran across a deal{$250.00} on a Mosrite BG-500. I know this is the Amp that helped destroy Mosrite but I couldn't pass it up. I will no longer be biased against Solid State Amps, this Beast is incredible
I thought it would be a conversation piece, man was I wrong. These Amps were made by voicing Mosrite Guitars Through them. The Reverb didn't work but everything else works great. The problem with the Reverb is part of what caused their demise. I use a 1964 Fender Reverb Unit anyway so that didn't bother me. If you own and Play Mosrite Guitars and have the chance to plug it into a Mosrite Amp, Do It!!!! I will always Love my Tube Amps but The SS Mosrite is getting a workout.

Was not one of the all time immortal songs done on Mosrite through solid state amps?
Iron Butterfly, "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida."
Mk Is and tuck and roll Kustoms.

Jim, that's almost correct. I.B. played Mosrites (Ventures Model) through Solid State Amps,
but the amps were the VOX "Super Beatle Amps" built by the Thomas Organ Company
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

Re: mosrite+vox ac 30
I have played mosrites on reissue Vox's ... they sound awesome but i am more partial to the orange ad30 amps (which is based on a vox ac30 but with slightly different configuration)

Thanks, Dennis, for the recording-specific on "In-A-Gadda..." amps.
'Saw them the year after the debut of the song and the amps were fo' sho' tuck and roll Kustoms. Maybe provided by the venue, which was summer-outside-big. If memory serves, metalflake blue, red and silver and black matching heads and cabs. The PA speakers were the silver ones.

Re: mosrite+vox ac 30
I think Mosrites sound awesome through the old tuck and roll Kustoms. They are one of the best clean sounds out there if you ask me. (I know, I know, nobody did...
)
I normally use a tweed Peavey Classic 50 tube amp, 2X12 combo with an old Peavey 2X12 cabinet with Jensens in it, that sounds pretty good. I just got a deal on a Fender Frontman 2X12 100 watt (solid state) thats not bad, but the reverb is crappy I think. That thing is LOUD! I have a '66 Fender brown tolex 2X12 cabinet with EV's in it that I'd like to run the Fender through, but I need to install an external speaker jack in the amp, it has none. I also have a '56 Fender Tremolux (no reverb) that I haven't gotten around to plugging the Mosrite into yet.
Speaking of the modeling amps, I have one of those Vox Valvetronix 100 watters, all I use on it is the AC30 setting with a Digitech Brian May pedal when I play, or ATTEMPT to play Queen songs. I get a good Brian May sound using a Strat, now, if I could only play like him......
I don't like to deal with all of those programs and stuff on it, I tend to be pretty basic and don't like to deal with much when I'm playing out.
