Is there a guide to Mosrite colors?

Postby handbrake » Fri Aug 28, 2009 11:01 pm

I wonder if someone's cataloged the possible colors that were applied to Mosrite guitars over the years?

The ad for this guitar makes me wonder if one person's rare paint color is another person's refin.

from what i know semie did quite a lot of custom work over the years, so a custom paint job is not uncommon. but what i would do is see if there is any checking on the neck and compare it to the finish on the body. if the body is in better shape then the neck, then i would suspect a refinish job.
I'm sure some of the guys on here would know if there was an official mosrite color chart.

strangely enough, I saw a Celebrity III that very color today in a local guitar shop. It does seem an odd combo with the tortoise guard.

Here's what the seller is saying:
The paint appears to be original; there is a grey primer underneath, then bare wood. I've been able to find examples of the maroon colour on other mosrite instruments of that era and it looks identical to the colour on this Ventures II.

The condition is great, no problems with the neck or anything, no cracks or breaks in the wood. The serial number is B29*, so it's an early one putting it in the '65 range.
