what makes me crazy is my father was 20 years old in 1958 and was gonna get a LP, but the guitar seller talked him out of it cuz he was a country musician.
but we do have an old 1930 gibson mandolin that was my dad's main instrument

I remember shopping for Fenders in 1964. Since I was saving a little a week to meet the prices, I remember them well. Telecaster was $186, Mustand was $189, Strat was $350, Jaguar was $425, and the new Mosrites were $398 (Ventures model). All of these prices included the case. The only other price that really comes to mind was the $325 I paid for the re-issue Gibson Les Paul Custom in 1969. Oh, my Fender search led to my purchase of a Mustang. At the time I thought the Tele was to plain for my tastes.

I'm never sure about much of anything. I always thought it was '76, but I could be wrong. Someone once told me that's what it was. It has no serial # I'll see if I can find a picture for you.

OK, that's it...'nuff already…can we close this thread please and get back to this century? My aspirins are running low, can’t get the DeLorean to start and my time machine was a waste of time anyway…

Yeah guys, those were the days…but don’t you sometimes have that sobering thought too that one day you shall have to leave all that you have behind anyway…so let's enjoy what we have now while we can... ;)

Not having been around in the 1960s, and only taking up guitar seriously in the mid 1980s, I can only complain about the idiot deals I missed out on then. Of course, the "outrageous" $750 I paid for my '66 Jazzmaster in 1993 doesn't sound so bad these days.

Really, we live in a pretty exciting time as far as guitars are concerned. With the internet, we have access to quality guitars from all over the world as prices that are quite reasonable. While you can't get a Mosrite Ventures model for $398 any more, you can get three different Hallmark Mosrite style guitars for $899, various MIJ Mosrites starting in the low $1K range, and up though the vintage market. And these are much closer to the real deal than the low line knockoffs of the 1960s (Teisco, Silvertone, etc)

Now, if only the rate of pay for gigs had kept up with the increases in guitar prices.
