Vox Bulldog Guitar

Postby Sixstringer » Mon Oct 12, 2009 3:36 pm

Thought I'd post a picture of my 1966 Vox Bulldog for those who never saw one. I bought this at a yard sale about 10 years ago for 10 bucks. It just needed strings. The trem arm and bridge mute thing is missing, otherwise it's all there.

Thats great. Next to Mosrite I love all things Vox. If I ever find one of these that is complete and working as it should I'm going to get it...after I get a Celeb that is

The Vox Ultrasonic !! Built in wah, fuzz, repeater, e-tuner, Vox always pushes the limits.

Terry McArthur of TNM Custom guitars can also lay claim to being the only guy that I know of who worked for Semie Moseley (in 1958-1959) and later, Vox-Thomas Organ, making some of these wacky Italian-American creations. He's got some good stories from those days.

Looking at the pic Sixstringer posted I'd say the Wilson Brothers' model (reversed Mo') is closer to it than to the Mosrite Ventures model... :geek:

Great back-up Dennis! You know, the more I look at it the more I'm convinced somebody at Vox (?) flipped the Mosrite and… hey presto, the Vox Bulldog...
To illustrate my point, I made a mirror image of Sixstringer's very interesting guitar (don't be fooled by the "Vox" logo in the headstock apparently remaining unchanged). Thank you for starting this thread Sixstringer ;)

I have believed this for a long time . EKO Guitar Company must of figured that
if Semie could do it with a Strat, then why not just flip the Mosrite over?

I have a complete, all original Bulldog, and used to own a Starstream XII, with all the effects.
Don't forget that in addition to Fuzz, Repeater and Palm Wah, it has a treble / Bass boost circuit as well. Instant painful feedback!! And Repeat Percussion (Repeater) is the greatest effect of all time.
I think that the mute feature on the Bulldog is a slightly better version of what was on the Mosrites. Activated by resting your palm on a lever, as opposed to lifting the mute with your pinky.
