Frank, I went over to GuitarsCanada and checked out the topic. great to hear you donate guitars and pedals. However, You can't assume that people here are going to know that you do that if they don't frequent GuitarsCanada. It's just like hey, Here's an acoustic smashed and there isn't any more information. So would you please tone down the attitude because it isn't the best thing for the forum.

And for anyone else interested, Here's a link to Frank's topic over at GuitarsCanada.

Thanks for posting the link 101Volts :)

I was in a rush this morning...some of my bovines manage to jump the fence for a little walk, anyways.
I mean i told everyone in my first post here, that i was into "gear destruction" and even in some other post..I didn't feel to justify..Life is been good to me the last few years, but i clearly remember SKIPPING rent, just to buy cheap immitation of strat,so i can smash them, its a personal choice...and the items donnated in the link above its just a small fraction of what i been giving away..And btw i think that all my smashing thing is not as half stupid has crossing over RELIGION and music, wearing fake beard. It all come down to what float your boat...we all have an unintellectual way of being provocative.
Do you feel it...do you feel it the POWER OF MY BRISCK......
Thanks

Spankin Allison,

It's time to rethink the reason you joined this forum. Since you are talking about floating boats, periodically we have someone join the forum that likes to rock the boat for entertainment purposes. I'm not saying that is your motive, but so we all understand my position, I don't like a rocky boat. The member in which you allude to is a moderator of this forum and has been around a while. Take heed!

Frank,

If you're looking to stir the pot, I'm afraid you won't. Your behavior makes an impression, and from my perspective, it's not a positive one. If you want to show off what a wild guy you are, and how you have earned the right by stiffing your landlord in order to buy things to smash, that's your choice, just don't resort to curses and derogatory remarks if we're not impressed. This isn't that kind of forum.

Sorry...Mabye i had a bad day or some lack of sleep.Lets all forget about this..i mean if your willing to?

Here you'll hear the silvertone go clean.I know it has nothing to do with nothing..but i've been playing for a long time, but recently i had a huge hand accident..got tendons, nerve, etc cut off my left hand, actually i lost the use of my middle finger and alot of flrxibility and sensation in the others...all my hand feel numed all the time except for my thumb.I actually have to gauge my strenth by picking up eggs...if they smash, then i know i when to hard.Is like if i was having to learn aigain how to play.To me is important that you know...because i was a least 10 times the guitar player i am right now...but its getting back slowly.

Thanks
Frank :)

Did not want to get involved in this discussion at first and decided it would best be wise to stay out of it, especially when the thread quickly started to take on a downward spiral.

I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune Spankin Allison but glad to see that you're taking on a more positive attitude…and playing style! ;)

You see, the bad vibes radiating from your "destruction videos" as I watched them -but especially the response to some of the members' predictable and understandable reactions here- kept bothering me because I too fail to see the point of grownups doing infantile type of expressionisms without any rhyme or reason (not even a parody on The Who or Jimi Hendrix). So here's my reaction to your posting anyway and for anyone who may still be interested in following this thread.

I realise that I may perhaps have to dodge some bullets now but I'm just curious as to where your (early?) influences came from Spankin Allison -without meaning to be sarcastic.

My own early inspiration and influences to pick up a guitar (and not throw it down) came from great players like Scotty Moore (for Elvis), James Burton and Joe Maphis (for young Ricky Nelson), Hank Marvin (of the Shadows) and furthermore the sound and style of The Ventures, just to name a few.

However, if smashing gear is your private enjoyment and indulgence then who am I to criticise but exporting it and showing it on this Forum, you can bet on it to draw the type of responses you've been getting from members here and not surprising at all you'll not be making (m)any fans and friends either this way.

Not picking on you because I have always found it outrageously provocative and distasteful of even true musicians like "The Who" -smashing their equipment on stage during performances in public and for that matter could never appreciate Jimi Hendrix's 'burnt offerings' on stage either –even if these acts are/were meant to be artist, poetic, spiritual, ritual -or whatever else you may have. (Maybe Jimi was just fed up with Fender CBS quality... :D )

Although I may even happen to like their music (and I do -particularly Jimi’s!) and even if it may involve mock-, cheap-or worthless instruments (perhaps in your case) it is my honest opinion that this type of exhibitionistic smashing behaviour quite simply gives off the wrong kind of signal, regardless.I'm sure none of us either have been angels always during our entire lives but starting to grow up is never too late, compri?

I sincerely wish you a satisfactory (if not full) recovery with your hand.

Paul

Hey, Frank--

Once again, Paul has said what I was thinking better than I could. I remember being so put off by the Who and Hendrix ruining good instruments that it very much got in the way of me listening to their music. I did not buy any of their records until years later because I disagreed so strongly with that aspect of their performances.

The way I looked at it, even though I came from a priviledged background, was that the money or music gear I earned was something I worked hard for, and someone deliberately throwing it away in what appeared to be a self-indulgent fit was ugly in the extreme.

I still see similar ugliness around; when I worked as a contractor at Marvel Comics in the late 1980s-early 1990s, I found the art and subject matter in their products to often be ugly and mean-spirited. I said something to the management about it, and was told it wasn't my place to comment on such things. As soon I had something else lined up, I walked away.

So please know that, to many of us who grew up in the 1960s especially, unnecessary ugliness or mean behavior is a must to avoid and puts us off.

Take care--

-Jim

hey spankin,
had the same thing happen to my index finger last april. still getting it back and yes it sucks. it'll take me a year.

as to the destruction thing. idunno. doesn't bother me as much as others. cheap instruments are a waste of material in the first place. i have worked in the building trades for 25 years and the stuff i have had to rip out to suit new owners has made me cry. so has crappy work other folks have done to perfectly beautiful works of craftsmanship. i have also butchered cheap jap guitars in my time to make "new" instruments, and while i didn't shed a tear for any of them, i kinda wish i still had at least one of those(not because it played well cause it didn't, in fact, i would sooner chew off my own hand than to be stuck on a desert island with that hunk of garbage, but i would like it as a wall hanger just because it looked cool)

but THE WORST....is the movie and photography business. if any of you have ever worked in it, you would see that the utter and complete waste that is involved with almost any project would make you vomit. the sheer amount of food that gets thrown out after a shoot is disgusting. you could feed small villages on what ends up in the garbage. props? yeah, they end up in the dumpster. electricity, gas, ego.....

just putting it in perspective.

and, i still have the really crappy guitar shaped thing called a "harmony" guitar that i grew up with. i'm surprised i didn't give up then.....
