'Few years ago, 'was reading a GP or VG on Eric Johnson, a man admittedly with exponentially more chops and ears than this picker, but one piece of his "musical philosophy" screamed out its brilliance and logic and has been used ever since.
Maestro Eric tunes in the following sequence:
E 6th
E 1st
D 4th
B 2nd
A 5th
G 3rd
He said it equalizes string tension on the neck while tuning. 'Sure works here.
Any similar musical knowledge jewels you folks wish to share?

To the best of my knowledge Eric Johnson has the same number of ears as the rest of us, unless Haole Jim resembles Vincent Van Gogh.

That has always been S.O.P for any guitar with a vibrato since I started playing in the late '50s. Good to reiterate that logic for those new to the scene.

That is very interesting. I've never heard of that before. Of course, I never had a tremelo/vibrato on a guitar until this year. Very good to know. Thank you!

Hey--
I had never heard of that, either, but, like Sarah, I've never had a vibrato-equipped guitar before this year.
It reminds me, though, of how my dad taught me to tighten lug nuts on a wheel to avoid distorting the wheel, and I guess the same principle applies.
Thanks for the good info! I am just getting ready to put new strings on the HC60 so this came at the right time!!!
