In reply to Dennisthe Menace. You are probably right 6 months or so sounds right. This
guitar was not completed in one full shot. Semie knew he was probably going to
have to get to the right person at the right time to make it happen. I saw it in various
stages over a period of time. It is hard to say exactly what date it really was finished.
I remember changing out a couple of bridges and doing the final string up so I could
set the action and adjust the Truss Rod in the guitar neck. No Truss Rod of course
in Octave Neck. Semie came in and we both started playing and the camera came out
and I don't remember who took these photo's. Semie we all know would set project's
aside and come back to them. Dates are a tough thing to pin down so many years later.
Because I know these pictures were taken at the same time of others I have. I know Semie on this trip up to N.C. had maybe 20-25 guitars in various stages and many more that were just still Raw Blanks. The JM-65 Bodies and Necks were cut by this time. I remember them being there at this time I was pictured playing the Mister President
Guitar. He had a helper at the time. Pierre was his name. Loretta would know what his last name might have been. I've got pictures of him somewhere. The fact that Semie
said he was having some problems getting the guitar to the right people, some time had passed by. And he was not worried about getting it finished by any certain date. We finished it up as something to do. And I thought it was really cool.!!!!!

So, does anyone know if former-President George H.W. Bush plays guitar? If I ever knew, I have forgotten. Someone told me once that George W. Bush did, but I don't know if that was an accurate report.

Hey gang I better clear something up. I knew it was getting late the other night.
Yes the headstocks are painted. The Armrest and Pickguard are pickguard material.
Is the pickguard painted or made up of colored pieces? I don't remember. But I believe
Semie did a heck of a job laminating that pickguard together I don't remember it painted
and Clear Coated. I'll find out, it's been a long time since I held that guitar.

Elaine, my Wife and I know what you mean. I can't believe it was almost 22 years ago (FEB '88)
when Semie attacked that 'project.' The reason for me reacting to this, is that we now
have a daughter that just started college......

"MISTER PRESIDENT" GUITAR REVISTED

Postby EF@MosriteRecords » Tue Nov 10, 2009 10:11 pm

I have received some great feedback on the original posting. I agree it is a part
of MOSRITE history. The question about the Headstock and/or the Armrest
and Pickguard, Painted or?. I knew it was late the night I posted the original post.
The headstock is painted (Silk-screened). The Armrest and Pickguard are Pickguard material. It's been a long time but I don't believe they were painted and Clear Coated. I kind of remember a Jig that was put together and with the genius of Semie the pieces were laminated and then highly polished.Trimed and beveled. This is what Semie was great at, GINGERBREAD, BELLS & WHISTLES. I will check into it. Paint on a Pickguard or Armrest,: That's not Semie.

Luv to all

I was just talking this morning to a friend about this guitar. The body used on
this guitar is a JM-65 Model.

Elaine,
Thanks for the clarification!
If I were president I would accept that guitar graciously and display it prominently in the oval office (but of course I am not).
One of our local music stores has a 12&6 JM guitar I'd love to try, maybe next time I'm there I'll ask them to get it out.
Again a testimony to Semie's skill & you make it look good!
Another question though, do you remember whether both necks have the speed frets?
Are they the same wire or do the octave necks have smaller size wire?

I am going to answer loveyX this way. I have owned a lot of Doublenecks. Super
Custom Guitars and Standard productions. Probably 8 Customs and 14 to 15
standards including the Joe Maphis Memorial Guitar Called the JM-65, the 65 because
of Joe's age when he passed. There were to be 65 made, never happened. The guitars I have had, all had the same gauge or size frets on both necks. 6X6 or 6X12. I myself had some 6X12's converted by Semie to 6X6. Semie yanked the 12 string necks off and put a Octave Neck On. If you ever come across one you will know, because I had Semie during conversion SET NECK (Glued In) the necks, both of them. I am not sure if he ever did that for somebody else. Also the metal neck plates on the back are no longer there on most, but not all of them. Semie would do his magic and cover up that fact by covering the neck plate area under the BLACK area of the Sunburst. They will in most cases also be Doweled in place. It's hard to see if you don't know what you are looking for. Of course the ZERO FRET WIRE will be the same size on the guitars that have zero frets. Semie built me many guitars without ZERO FRETS, Single Necks and Doublenecks. I am old School and I like to pull the 2nd or 3rd string over the Nut with my Index Finger when I want to. Of couse the fact it might have a Zero Fret does not
prohibt this. To me it's a matter of taste. If the guitar had as you call Speed Frets, yes both necks would be freted the same way. I know what's coming, someone may have
a guitar not that way. I just have not seen one. A good discussion point though.

Luv

Elaine
