I did not have time to look at every one of these photos posted but, it looks to me some of these bodies have a slightly deeper carve than others and maybe the pickguards were cut to fit. Also look at tailpiece placement, is it farther back on the "deeper" cut bodies? I did not look.
And once again, the difference between a carved Ventures II and a Mark V(also carved) is the scale length. A Mark V has a short scale. A Ventures II does not. Put one of each next to each other, observe, then play. You will instantly know the difference.
A carved Ventures II and a slab Ventures II have the same scale length.
Did one or more Mark V's get the wrong silkscreening of Ventures II on the headstock? Sure seems possible.

As for the heel on the neck, to my knowledge, none of the V II's or Mark V's had a tongue on the heel like a regular Ventures model.

ya know whats crazy, the first mosrite I ever played was exactly like this red ventures 2. it was back in 1996. the asking price back then? 800 bucks!

Hi Guys. I started looking for evidence of 62-70 catalog's here on the Forum. I am sure
many of you probably have them. Semie gave me a complete collection of the
black & white or in some cases the blue & white as well as the color cat's and one, two page flyers. I agree even with them it can leave you scratching your head. Last year I spent 10 months with Andy, and as I related in another thread, I finished at least 8 ventures II's Red & Black, 4 each. Also 5 or 6 Ventures standard White & Black & Sunburst, there might have been a Red one. 4 or 5 Bass's. We also completed many Celebrity Models. These were all uncompleted units from the Bakersfield closure. It's probably safe to say the instruments I worked on, completed under Andy's Supervision are the last original Mosrite's built by the original Moseley family (really we had a ball) I was surrounded by MOSRITE HISTORY. I was up to my ears from Pickups to Vibramutes to Flying Saucer Knobs. The original silkscreens, jigs and you name it. I took pictures all the time so there is a photo history. I knew from the gitgo how important these final original instruments were. Andy related to me what some of the thought pattern was. If you would like I can post this copyrighted material for research, discussion and comment. It might answer some of the MK questions. When I was at the Music Store
in So. Calif. before moving to Nashville, Semie would ship me Mk series guitar's quite often

Looking at these two pics, Notice there is very little wood between the last fret and the end of the neck on your guitar. Maybe the difference between early and later models is not the scale length or location of the neck but simply that the end of the neck is longer on the later models, Possibly making the later models a little less likely to break if they fall down and giving later models a little more tuning stability. Why have an extended tongue under the neck pickup like on a Ventures I since this was the cheaper model?

I have a question:
Were the long-pickguard Ventures II models all manufactured earlier than the short-pickguard (The later design to later be named Mark V) models? If so, Perhaps we could consider the long-pickguard models a "Ventures II Generation 2" Model and the short-pickguard models a "Ventures II Generation 3" Model?
