EXACTLY what I was thinking. They make the old Animals band look like the Partridge Family.

Should have been called Davie Allen and the Surlys.

Keep in mind, they were the soundtrack for almost every biker movie made. What did you want them to do, smile? :D

You mean that they didn't ride Honda 50s and wear striped Gant shirts like the Beach Boys did?!?!?!??

Once I got this guitar, I reached out to Davie, to learn what I could, and to make sure it was ok that I bought it. He did say that it was an endorsement deal, but I didn't get any further details. He seems pretty happy with his jazzmaster these days.

Hey Gang,
I'm having a problem with this whole sha bang......I look at the pic of the black and white of Dave with the Doubleneck, and on the 6 string Headstock,
if you look closely, you can see the "Joe Maphis Model" silkscreen scripture on the headstock, but my problem is, if you look on the later model from
our member 'a possible world,' the 'Joe Maphis' signature on the 6 string no longer exists....so, is this Davie's guitar???
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

You have sharp eyes Dennis...perhaps that part of the decal/logo had to be sacrificed ...during restoration? :?

Ah yes I hadn't quite gotten there yet, and good eyes indeed. The 6-string neck has been replaced with one a few years later. I haven't been able to figure out how or why this happened, but I know the guitar has been in storage since 1971. Davie didn't tell me anything about it. The 6 string neck has slightly larger frets on it, maybe like 50s Fender size frets. I'm wondering if Davie had the neck switched after either damaging the original one, or just for more normal playability. It has a pretty unusual serial number too, simply 68.

A replacement neck had crossed my mind but I thought..."naw". I had noticed the darker fingerboard on the 6 string neck though. Dennisthe Menace, I am a little disappointed that you didn't notice the difference in fret size... heh, heh :D

A very cool guitar to have, Davie Allan's d-neck.
--and you're right Rocco, Davie is a very underappreciated and underrated artist.
He does one of the coolest versions ever of "Lulalby of the Leaves" on the Swingin' Creeper Ventures tribute album.
I just received the Feb. Vintage Guitar mag., and Davie has a new album out, "Retrophonic". It's reviewed in the Hit List section on pg. 128, along with an interesting little bio.

Davie is truly the King of Fuzz!
