Welcome to the forum Frank. What kind of guns do you build? My father in law wants me to help him with building a Muzzleloader, at least with the gun stock part of it. He's really into the ridge runner/ mountain men kinda stuff.

Hi Austin!

You don't need to apologize for asking about a good Fender or Marshall amp!

That being said, the first (and most popular) Marshall amps were DIRECT COPIES of Fender's 1959 Bassman, so I would never buy one....they can keep'em. ;)

Good Fender amps are usually pre-1965, but not limited to. some early '60s Vibroverbs and twin reverbs are really really sweet but rare. I like the 50's amps myself, like the Bassman, and the Twin. A Super Amp is great too.. they used to call it the Dual Professional from 1947-1951 (I think), but that was a rare V-front design, twin 10inch speakers too!!! Those go for ~$10,000 on the 'bay and they are rare.

You want a good amp? Look up early and late 50's Fenders, late 50's Magnatones, late 60's Ampegs. And ALWAYS let your ears do the buying.

I say this because if you put a JBL (for example, a D-130) speaker in a Fender amp, and change the 6L6 tubes for 807's (you can get a converter on epay for the anode cap), those amps start to sound so much like an old Standel it'll knock your socks off.

Hope this helps - Cheers!!

Hi there,

Well, in my spare time, I restore, modify, and repair firearms, guitars and amps. I'm also studying to go to Law school in 2 years, so I'm working on my LSATs right now. I also like to repair old tube TVs (yikes......), read up on A LOT of guitar-related history, especially gear like amps, pedals, rise and falls of companies, etc. I do research on rare circuits, and I also like to help people out in the forums online looking for advice  . I also really like my Bowflex.

I am in the computer security field of work, and have been for a good decade, and I have been on a computer keyboard for over 25 years. Do yourself a favor: don't ever get into computers................ . I guitar-playin', computer security specialist with a Juris Doctor credential should make waves in the eployment field.....

Cheers!!!

Welcome to our forum.

Check out this guy:

http://www.victoriaamp.com/

The owner / engineer; Mark was a stock broker and now he is building one of the best amps I have known. Someday we may see one of the greatest amps built by an ex-lawyer.

Good luck with your dream.
