Here's a topic from last year where we discussed this particular guitar and various others of the same time era.

In regard to this discussion. I know for a fact that Carvin coils were removed from
their Shell's and the Black Molded Covers had the Carvin Coils placed inside on quite
a number of guitars.

Cool Guitar....I want one, same color-Hah,hah.... Elaine, I concur with you about the pickups. My research indicates that at this time period Semie used Carvin coils in his own shells that he made. Not to rob from this thread but does anybody know what happened to this guitar?

Not Sure where the guitar went but the store that had it is about 20 miles from my house. In my few visits there I never saw it. they did have a red Ventures model at one time that they were asking way to much for. On a sad not this is the store where I sold my original Ventures model Mark1.

Well one thing we do know. That the photo was taken prior to 1986. Chances of tracking down both of the originals?, never say never. Andy suggest Japan on at least one of them. I might have the chance to ask a certain gentleman or two from Japan this weekend. Dana might have some info, and I will also see her this weekend.
I am interested because this is about as early as it gets on that famous Venture
profile, German Curve and all.

Notice! That this guitar has a 6 SCREW Pick guard. In prior comments on this thread
we talked about 3 Screw's 7 Screw's. Here is one with 6 Screw's and it's the earliest of them all with this body style.

I know I saw that but because Rumble Seat Music is probably the origin of the photo, this is their error it looks like.
I can say this about dates. That work is going on to clarify the sequence of what guitar's came first. It looks like that task (may) be possible.__

is anyone sure that is the original color? looks to me like it had aged over the years. kinda like how a lot of the pearl white mosrites turned to a pearl cream. awesome pics.

Elaine if you could give us more detail on how a lot of this early stuff was made i.e. the pickups, hardware etc, I would love you forever! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Everyone, remember Deke Dickerson's highly informative and interesting thread --> viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1694&p=16177&hilit=bob+crooks#p16177

This part of forerunner Mosrite Ventures Model history is to me -by far- the most important and interesting part and it needs to be chronologically correct, so it deserves all the input it can get.
Here's a quote from it now, just to 'warm us up' ;)

"1958-1960 Semie lived in Granada Hills in the San Fernando Valley and built guitars in a small shed. (this according to Terry McArthur, who apprenticed for Semie during this time)

1960 Semie moved to Bakersfield and lived with church people while trying to establish some guitar foothold. The earliest Bakersfield guitars are a major step back from the L.A. guitars, very simple and crude.

1961-1963 Semie established a "shop" on Panama Lane east of Bakersfield, in a tin shed behind fiddle player Jelly Sanders house. Semie and Andy Moseley lived in the shed and made guitars, enlisting local kids and guitar enthusiasts like Bill Gruggett and Joe Hall to do sanding and piecemeal work. This is where the first Ventures-style guitar emerged, first as a Standel prototype guitar, then as the "Joe Maphis Model" guitar which was then virtually swiped intact to become the Ventures model guitar. (this according to Bill Gruggett, Joe Hall, and a number of other Bakersfield musicians who remember coming to "the shed.")

1964-1968 The Ventures boom. Semie establishes a factory in downtown Bakersfield and Mosrite becomes a household name. After numerous bad money management decisions the factory and all assets are seized, and the tooling, machinery and leftover guitar stock is sold at auction."

[edit] if you take another look at the Joe Maphis model flyer, notice on the single neck guitar that the tone switch is near the volume and tone knobs -and not in the treble horn...
