Shhhh. (whisper) don't tell all, it'll make the price go up!
Joking aside, it's a piece of Mosrite history and it needn't compete with Semie's best ;)

True, true... but I too would love to add this to the collection.

I hate to have to say it ...and also to be the one to do so, but in all fairness to everyone, especially to it's owner, an auction like ebay should be the right place to flogg it :| Mosrite Forum members can join in the bidding too of course...but I do understand what eltuce is 'smelling'... ;)
And feel at ease, I myself won't be bidding...

My beef with eBay is that the overhead for the aution and payment can approach 10%.

The drawback for the seller, especially when your audience has already been established, is that $600 bucks means $550 on eBay. Yet it still means $600 bucks for the seller on the forum.

And you also avoid Hankeroo-types who'll part out the guitar for an extra $20 and sell that husk as a "project".

Good points handbrake, I wasn't thinking.

I have never SOLD anything through ebay but my reasoning was to go the ebay (or similar) route if the guitar proves to have huge ($$$) selling potential and so attract a wider audience. But then you can never tell because "the proof of the pudding is in the eating".

Having said that, I would love for one of our Forum members to have it; after all, that "wider audience" could be the very same one, right here on the Mosrite Forum! ;)

Anyway, it's for trusswow to decide it's future. If there is going to be a new owner, I hope he (she) is going to treat it with real TLC. It'll be interesting to follow possible new developments.

Ebay and Paypal fees can really suck sometimes. I'm always disappointed when I get that invoice after I think I did so well on an item. I've been doing consignment with a couple of things lately because it seems to be about the same without the hassle of me having to deal with shipping and packing.

I haven't decided what I'm going to do with the old ax.. Still contemplating.. I appreciate everyone's interest and comments.
I'll decide in a few days and let everyone know.
I too am NOT a fan of EBAY especially for collector guitars. You end up answering 1000 questions from "tire kickers" and folks that have no intention of buying your item. THEN you get the folks that just want to "steal" your item.
I've had good luck with more main stream items but when I've tried to sell any of my "collectables" it's been a hassle. (Except for once when I put a "buy now" price on a one of a kind bass and sold it within hours).

I hear ya on the steal. I had a Hagstrom Viking that I listed a few times with no takers. Eventually someone got it for $599, he turned around and put it up with a BIN for $999 and with a little patience sold it. Hated that since I didn't even really want to sell the guitar. Insult to injury, ouch!

Yeah, I know that feeling. I Restored a 1966 Ventures MK I model back to original sun burst finish that had all original hardware and electronics, along with it's original faux Alligator brown case and sold it to a forum member for $1500. I've been kicking myself ever since. I turned around and bought another one with a later era black Tolex case with none original finish, non original tuners and non original pots, wiring or capacitor. Dumb!

I am slowly putting it all back to original specs but for heck of a lot more money than $1500.

On the bright side, there will be two Ellison-restored Mosrites, a definite positive!
