Combo guitars

Postby surfrider » Thu Feb 18, 2010 11:01 am

I have a question concerning Semie's hollow body guitars. Sometime in the early '70's a friend had a Mosrite Combo guitar that was not a Maphis model or a Celebrity. It's body shape was almost like that of a Ventures model, and I have never seen another like it...all the combo guitars I see are the Maphis design.

I did find a couple of photos in my Ventures albums.....the first is from the inside liner cover of their Super Psychedelics album, the guitars Don and Mel (!) are playing seem to be of this different design. Disregard this pic.....looks like a Maphis and a Celebrity there on a closer look. Neat picture anyway!

The second is from the cover of Guitar Genius of the Ventures, the guitar in question is at the lower right corner.

Am I remembering correctly that there was another combo design? Maybe I am having a psychedelic moment of my own...... Thanks!

Looks like a regular 12-string combo to me.

Semie came out with a 'Mini-Combo' in the late 80s, but it still did not look like a Ventures Model.......

Thanks for the replies. The guitar he had was not as wide across the body at the bridge, the curves were not as exaggerated, and the F-hole was not as angled. Wish I knew what became of it!

Surfrider,
If this is a friend that you have stayed in contact with over the years, you may want to ask him if he has any old
PIX of the guitar (like maybe any of him playing it when he was in a band).......us Mo' Enquirers wanna know ;) .

Has anybody ever seen a 12 string Combo with the Mosley Vibrato? a rare bird I'm thinking.

Agreed. A mosrite 12 string with a trem is rare by itself, but a combo as well? pur-teee cool.

I had a 1966 Red non ventures model combo with the full moseley trem (not the celeb two piece). Great sounding guitar.
