Every Mosrite I have ever seen has the "Bondo" type pickup backing...

plenty of them had the foam backing, but I dont know for sure what years had what. my guess is that it was to prevent the epoxy dripping down into the pickup, but thats just a guess. maybe it was to save money of epoxy, who knows.....but I digress..
all of mine (early 70's) mosrite 'buckers has the epoxy on the back. I remember reading on tym guitars site that the epoxy color changed for different periods in mosrite production. :ugeek: :ugeek: :ugeek: :ugeek:

jfine, I wonder if he tried finishing it in a varnish? I seen a few older guitars with an attempted varnish finish on them, and every one I seen looks like a someone rubbed snot all over the guitar. It really surprises me what some people will do to a finish. Varnish can really look beautiful though, you just got to know how to apply it. I've done probably a dozen antique cedar chests all in varnish, and they look beautiful.

I have also found out through friends tat were in California at the time and know Semie that nothing is definite in finish or parts as Semie used what was available when he needed it.

agreed. the only real constant theme in semie's work was he used what he had available at the time ;)
