1959 bass?
I have just bought a mosrite bass. I am told it is a 1959. It has a brass plate near the bridge which says mosrite 1959. On the bridge cover is printed Mosrite of California. It is a single pick version. Can anyone tell me if they were making a bass around this time. The serial number is 5043. Which I have researched could be around 63. I am also after some tuners and original tone and volume knobs.

Pictures would help tremendously.

Re: 1959 bass?
Yes Dennis and Sarah! the description zub gives rang a bell with me too. I wouldn't go by what's engraved on the brass plate, not a standard feature; it might just as well have read 1859 for that matter.Dennisthe Menace wrote:I'm a little frightened, wandering about the '59 that was on E-Bay around a year ago.....
About the "Mosrite of California" on the bridge cover, I remember thinking it being a private endeavour and that the owner at the time could possibly have been engraver by trade.
More importantly, the development of the famous Ventures model Mosrite reached it's definitive stage in 1962/63 and the bass version -which evolved from it- could therefore not have existed prior to 1962/63.
If the serial number indeed points to a date around 1963 (sounds more credible) then you have something special on your hands zub; in any case, congratulations on your purchase!
Now hurry and show us some pics to jog our memories

Click on the links in the above post. We are familiar with this bass; it has been discussed in at least two threads. In fact, it seems another Australian member was in your shoes just a short while ago.

Re: 1959 bass?
The photos posted by dorkrockrecords are of my bass. Is it mostly to be a 63? The date plate is next to the tail piece.

Re: 1959 bass?
This bass is a 1964, or at least it used to be. Let's just say it has issues, most of which have been documented in the two threads I already posted. Do yourself a favor and read them, zub.
