Some photos from 1978 & early 1980s of my Mosrites plus ...

No one has challenged my claim that I owned 2 Mosrite basses, a THE VENTURES model and a Joe Maphis model but I thought I'd post some photos to cement that I did own 'em. In 1978 I celebrated my 40th birthday at a friend's apartment and I thought I'd treat them to my only public playing gig. I selected the Beatles' "BIRTHDAY" and the Bee Gees "NIGHT FEVER" playing along to 2 LPs. Shortly after that party my wife and I moved to L.A. and I don't remember what happened to the bass. In L.A. I owned several basses including a Joe Maphis model. I sold it to the bassist for the Angry Samoans.

The photos below are digital copies of 4"x6" prints. The last photo of the Mosrite guitar I took in L.A. when you could still see such a thing: a Mosrite guitar in a retail situation! The price was $800.

You should have seen the hot pink it had been painted with the word "dog" in a contrasting color. My mind was not as well developed as it is now so not only didn't I take before photos, I also didn't notice the original color or the serial number or whatever info was stamped on the neck. I took it to my building's basement, stripped the body and spray-painted it red.

I have 2 additional photos that are presently "lost" in the vastness of our 400 square foot apartment I've been looking high and low for. One, the bass resting against my Fender amp with 2 LPs that influenced my learning to play which was "SURFING" by THE VENTURES and a reggae LP. The other photo was taken when I took the bass to the steps of the brownstone next to my building to take photos of the bass on a stand on the steps and when I was doing so a young woman walked by and asked if she could pose with the bass. The resulting photo was her "loving" my bass. I'll find the photos one of these days...

I also have couple of b&w photos of me posing with my Joe Maphis model while living in L.A. Unfortunately, I don't have the photos but I do have the negatives. Another unfortunately, the negs are in the 110 format and I can't find a a local photo business that will make copies without costing me a fortune, something like $10 for a 4"x6"!
