Mosrite Celebrity with Vibramute!

Postby Sarah93003 » Wed Jun 23, 2010 2:40 pm

Well, I am pretty stoked! I just bought a Mosrite Celebrity-II (thinline with deluxe pickups, etc.) and it has the Vibramute half tremolo! Yes, a Vibramute! I have never seen one before and I can't wait to get my hands on this guitar and provide photos. The seller states that it is pretty rough so this may be a restoration project for me or it may end up being parts. Either way it was a great deal. I won't have it in my possession a week and a half. I'll keep ya'll posted!

Thank you! No this one was not on eBay. I got it from an older gentleman in the Phoenix, AZ area. The only way he would make the deal was if someone came go his house with cash. I was on pins and needles trying to find someone to pick it up for me. What a task it turned out to be! I'll assess it fully once I get it. I think it is restorable and has all of it's original parts. The pickups are pre circle R, the knobs are V and T, and it has the half Vibramute trem. There are signs that there was once an oval labor in the F hole. I'll post pics as soon as I can!

Yes, that is the one. Once I have it in my possession and take it apart I'll really know what I've got to work with. I could certainly turn a tidy profit just by selling the parts if it is not restorable. However, my prime objective will be to restore it. I've been wanting a white Celebrity for quite some time. ;)

You got a great deal there Sarah! BTW, I'm gonna try to find a PIC that Paul (Veenture) posted a while back
that shows the difference between 'the Celebrity' which is what you just bought, and the Celebrity-II. ;)

Sarah,

Unfortunately the picture here is difficult to distinguish the differences of 'the Celebrity' and a Celebrity-I which is the full hollowbody (not shown). However, Mel Taylor (on the right) is playing the original 'Celebrity' (different from the CE-II) which I think is finished in an 'orange red...? The toggle switch is mounted flush to the treble side horn and the V & T controls are flush onto the body w/o the scratchplate....I know, it's hard to tell :( , but that is the original 'Celebrity' that came out some time in '64-'65. :). Nokie is playing the CE-II, which shares the same scratch plates with the CE-I and III in which we can not see in the PIC unfortunately :( . If you ever get a chance to look at the decal sticker in the original, it will say 'Celebrity' only ;) .
