Ventures II

Postby ImNotJohnnyRamone » Wed Jul 14, 2010 8:34 pm

I has a question for y'all!

Ventures II. Johns style. Where they just made for him? Like I would think Semie made a few thousand or more than just like 10 for Johnny. Are any still around? Im talking REAL. Not Ed Phonymans "Mos"
1975 Univox Hi Flier Phase 3 (Black)
2009 Eastwood JR Elite (White)
2007 Squier Strat (Sun Burst)
1990 Cort Tele (Black)

the ventures II slab body mosrite (the guitar johnny ramone made famous) was only produced the spring of 1965. It's believed that only 150-250 were ever made. Johnny bought these used at Manny's in NYC. back in the 70's these guitar were worthless (in value) which is probably a main reason johnny bought it. Today an original goes for about $5,000, and that's only if you are lucky enough to find one.
The only semie made mosrite johnny had made for him was the "ramones model" which wasn't made until around 1990, and was a completely different guitar.
The closest thing in my opinion to getting one just like johnny's original ventures 2, at a realistic price tag, is one of the hallmark versions.
Cheers,
Aaron

Yeah, I agree with OPG. Although I've never played an original slab model, I think I've read enough to give an opinion. I have the Sheena model from Hallmark. I don't have the same set up as Mr Cummings, but what ever. I really like my Sheena model.

When was the last time an original Mk II was even up for sale? I don't think I've ever seen one on Ebay.
In order of purchase:
1) Mosrite Ranger
2) V88
3) Stereo 350
4) Hallmark II in Johnny Blue
5) Danelectro '66
6) Celebrity III
7) Hallmark Gospel
8) Serenade
9) Eastwood 300

I saw one on eBay in February last year. It was a red one and the finish wasn't in very good shape, I wasn't recording auctions at the time but I remember it sold for $5,000 by a BIN. Somewhere on the forum Adam said a white one in much better shape sold for $4,000 in Japan, I'm guessing it sold in 2008 to give a comparison. I'd like to see what a mint Mark II would go for on eBay now, BIN prices aside.
