Sarah, I believe the time sequence you stated for the trem systems are correct. I also believe that this is exactly what happened with the Combos as well. I have either a very late '65 or a very early '66 Combo with the Jewel knobs (lathed), trus rod cover on the headstock, but yet it has the full one piece trem system found on Ventures Models. About mid '66, the Combos were fitted with the the half piece trem system. So I'm wandering if this is what happened with the very early Celebritys with a full one piece unit, meaning that there may be more out there somewhere, but not as many as the Combo Model. Maybe we will see more surface as time goes on. Look at all of the info we have already learned just by looking on E-Bay, members that have joined the Forum, etc, etc........who knew???Sarah93003 wrote:I think the correct timeline will be: 1) Celebrities with a "Vibramute" half tremolo, 2) Celebrities with a "Moseley" half tremolo without a patent number, and then 3) Celebrities with a "Moseley" half tremolo with a patent number stamped above the name.
This of course, does NOT take into account a Celebrity with a full tremolo, such as the one example I show with a Moseley full tremolo. I don't know the story on this one at all.
Any thoughts on this?
johnnyboy1234 wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong but...the patent number is applied so no one will steal the idea and once it is granted it's taken off...kinda like PAF's. I'll ask Dana next weekend at the Guitar show...maybe she can enlighten. Also I have an August '65 with a Moseley with the # on the tailpiece. Maybe some of the other members can help.

Yes mine has the flat top with the German Carve and the Moseley trem. I don't recall it having the patent # on it in which I'll have to check the next time I go to my "VaultSarah93003 wrote:Dennis, that is very interesting. I really know nothing of the Combos and had never seen one in person until March of this year when I visited Front Porch Music. I was shocked by how big they are! Does the Combo have a flat top as opposed to an archtop?
I think the half tremolo was created to compensate for the archtop as I would expect the large flat bottom of the full tremolo would not seat properly. Is your full tremolo a Vibramute or a Moseley?

Although the full piece trem worked on the Combo, I'm wandering if Semie decided to establish a 'signature type' hardware on all of the hollow/semi-hollow bodies with the half piece units
