A Few Pics of my 1965 Ventures Model Bass

Postby rcblair » Tue Aug 17, 2010 4:41 pm

My parents bought this bass for me in 1965. We had to travel 60 miles to get it since there were no local Mosrite dealers in the area at the time. I played this bass exclusively until the early 90's when I started getting into 5-string basses. I still like to play this one out once in a while.

That looks beautiful! Is the headstock/neck three piece maple?

I almost sold it to a vintage guitar dealer in the mid-80's. Fortunately he never showed up to look at it and after that I decided to keep it forever.

I still remember my jaw dropping when I walked into the store and saw it hanging on the wall. I always try to keep my instruments in the best shape possible. I don't think there are any scratches on the back - I always cover my belt buckle with a polishing cloth. The bass has always had either flatwound or most frequently tapewound strings on it. I used those because I liked the sound. Little did I know I was preserving the frets at the same time.
