New guy says hello

Postby beenawhile » Mon Nov 08, 2010 10:10 am

Hey all,

Decided to take the plunge and join the forum today. I'm a long time Fender enthusiast, hailing from Portland, OR, with huge love of all things surf/Ventures/Shadows. I can only wish I owned a Mosrite - or a good clone.

Cheers

Welcome beenawhile, I was in the same seat as you and towards the end of 2008 found and immediately bought the perfect Mosrite 'clone'...the Hallmark 60 Custom - very affordable and very friendly towards my Fenders too, I might add ;)
Lots of information you'll find here.

Gotta love that Hallmark! I have been thinking about them for a couple of years. Just the other day, I walked into a local store and found 3 new ones hanging there (Stradette, Batwing, and 60s Custom). I have since demo'd the 60s Custom and there was much to like. If only it was sunburst, I might have bought it! But I might hold out for used a little while longer.

Hey Veenture - just noticed the links to your youtube vids. I look forward to checking them out when I get home. Is the Hallmark getting lead duty on these?

On practically all Ventures' covers, yes. For Shadows music a Strat, of course ;)

welcome to the forum, there's a lot of talent on this forum you could possibly find a nice mosrite cllone, or have one made for you.

Veenture - nice job on those covers. Only wish I could see the band play. Let me know when you hit the west coast!

Dennis, the store is Centaur Guitars in Portland, OR. Fairly new store with a great pedal and parts inventory. Not that many new guitars, though. I was in there 6 months ago and I told them that it would be cool if they carried a few Hallmarks. It think it was a total coincidence, but a few months later...presto!

We have had a few good local surf bands (Satan's Pilgrims, The Verbtones) who have used mosrites on stage, so perhaps the market is good here - sort of how I got turned on to the idea, I guess.
