Just wondering if anyone has attempted to have their Mosrite appraised? If so, where did you go? Hard times for me and I have been considering selling my Nokie model. Mainly though I want to know for insurance purposes, in case it's stolen or something. I know how much I paid for it, but I feel it's worth far more. Unfortunately none of the typical online appraisal sites, or even the blue books, are really fit to put a value on this guitar, with how rare it is. For reference / more details on the guitar, check this thread:

Thanks in advance!

Re: Appraisal?
I've had the same problem with my HitchHikers...nobody knows anything about them! My suggestion is to just insure them for what it will cost to replace...in your case, prying one loose from another collector's hands! If it's of any help, the HitchHikers retail for about $6500.00 USD from the Aria website in Japan at http://shop.ariaguitars.co.jp/shopbrand/087/O/ You will also find the Ventures model at this website...

Re: Appraisal?
Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately I think I may be the only one in the US that owns one of these...or at least, the only one who frequents Internet forums
Supose I should learn Japanese!

Re: Appraisal?
Not sure if an assessment should be a snapshot of what the market will bear. But they are typically based on comparables. Here's a recent auction of a Nokie model that went for slightly more than you paid for yours. Consider that after the eBay/PayPal fees, the seller netted less than you shelled out.

Re: Appraisal?
Is there a story to the 12 string bridge on your 6 stringer, or do all the Nokie models have them factory fitted as a standard, I wonder?

Re: Appraisal?
Interesting! However that guitar isn't quite the same as mine. The serial number appears to be after the last fret, instead of in between the last two frets. (Too bad it's not legible in the pictures.) Also, the neck on mine has a thicker gloss finish, whereas that one appears to have more of a satin / semi-gloss finish. Last but not least, mine is a sidejack model. I think the reason that one sold for so little is because the seller had very little idea what it was, and didn't advertise it appropriately. I'm actually wondering if that one is a Fillmore copy...the distinguishing features (stamped neck plate, serial number) aren't shown. If possible I'll email both buyer and seller for more details.
As for the 12-string bridge...my best guess is that this guitar was built using whatever parts were available in the factory at the time. It also has Grover tuners which appear to be factory.

Re: Appraisal?
In your original thread, there were lots of questions raised about this axe, with all its anomalies. I wonder if it's one of those "Parts-Rites" made from Canadian parts. The body I got from Curtis could have been drilled out for a sidejack, but I chose to put mine on the scratchplate.
At any rate, it's the market that determines the value (witness the price drop in many vintage guitars as the economy has plummeted), and if the market isn't what you'd like to sell for, you have to hold on to it until it improves.

Re: Appraisal?
Parts-rite, huh? Tell me more about those...never heard of Canadian parts guitars. I'd say it's certainly possible...it's not signed by Semie, and I read that all Mosrites made during that era were signed. For that matter, if we're considering all possibilities, it could be made from parts that sat in the shop until after Semie's death, then put together and sold or given to someone. I doubt it's a parts guitar though, simply based on the fact that if someone were going to make a parts guitar, they probably wouldn't have used a Nokie style body, with that odd body contour. But who knows? I reckon only the original owner could say. I could always put it up on eBay with a minimum bid of what I'd like to see for it, but I really would rather not part with it unless I know for sure I'll make a good sized profit. It's just so cool...even if it doesn't see as much play as it should. (I bought a PRS a while back and have become rather accustomed to the wide-fat neck profile.)

Re: Appraisal?
Here's a link to the one I built - all genuine Mosrite parts, obtained (as did Mel and Jim) from Curtis Muldoon in Canada ...

Re: Appraisal?
Wow, very nice! Of note is that mine appears to have a different / less dramatic german carve. Maybe just the finish used? I believe it to be an original though just based on quality. If it's a parts guitar, whoever put it together had some serious painting skills. (Not to say you don't
) Plus, the serial number on the neck matches up. I wonder, do the trems and pickups have part numbers on the late-model Mosrites?
