Cliff, here is a detailed description how to post photos to the forum.

viewtopic.php?f=19&t=53

I have not compared the two pickups to see which sound better. The pickups on the Celebrity-I and Celebrity-II were advertised as "deluxe" while the Celebrity-III were "economical". Based on that I would presume that the deluxe pickups (exposed poles) would sound better. Perhaps someone who has both will weigh in.

If I haven't already, I would love to know the serial number of your Celebrity for my website project as well as photos.

Thanks!
Sarah

Sound wise, I'd imagine they would be similar to comparing Ventures I pups to Mark V pups. Aren't Celebrity III pups the same as those in a Mark V, Design wise? I don't know all the differences between the Ventures I and Mark V pups but I'd imagine Semie would have cut costs with the MK V pups. Maybe he would have used slug magnets (Like Fender uses, Non adjustable pole pieces) In place of bar magnets and screws as the pole pieces. I don't actually know if he did that or not though, We really need info from an expert here...

Cliff, your guitar is a Celebrity-III, probably 1966-67 vintage. I remember this guitar when it was on Craigslist in Dayton, Ohio, and then later on eBay. It's a nice sunburst with the trapeze tailpiece.

Wow, you know my guitar!
Now it lives here in Yorkshire England.
Having a problem with signing up to p?bucket
but I guess you have pictures of it anyway so would need more.
If you do I could email them, that I can do
If anyone has a set of 60's pick ups they would sell, I'd like to try them.
I have trouble getting that kind of stuff here!
What is your website address re the Celebrity?
Thanks again,
Cliff.

Yes, Sarah is probably the most informed person on the planet concerning Mosrite Celebrities. If
Semie were alive today, he'd probably be asking her questions. I'm fortunate enough to own a Celebrity ll that I bought in 1967. It's in near mint condition. Here's an interesting fact about
this guitar that's rarely talked about. :

We all know that guitar strings die and need to be replaced regularly. If the bridge of your
Celebrity is properly adjusted for intonation, and you have you have Mosrite's best original
tuners, you can play old strings (and play them hard) up and down the neck and the guitar
will be in tune. Yes, the tone of the string will suffer. . . but not the ability to stay in tune.
Fresh strings always bring the best out of a guitar, but in today's economy this is one old
model that won't give you tuning problems if the strings get stale.
