Vintage Ventures LP

Postby Desert Surfer » Sun Nov 09, 2008 9:30 am

Since Mr. Fillmore shows his Ventures vintage LP's and the picks which Ventures members used on the Fillmore blog, I am also sharing some of my collection here:

Here are some of the picks Nokie used: I've got them from Judy Edwards. Thanks, Judy. Nokie liked to use Jim Dunlop picks, one of the pick has "Mosrite" on one side, and "The Ventures" on the other side.

Hey speaking of Ventures L.P.'s, I picked up a near mint original pressing of Ventures in Space with the plastic still on though not "sealed" . It sounds fricking awesome!!!! better than c.d.
Best $5.00 i ever spent. I'm going back to the place i picked it up at for more treasures.

I was lucky too and got these LP's from a local collector who is moving. The LP I hope to get next are "The Ventures Twest Party 1 & 2) I have CD version but it will be cool to have the original LP. "Twisted" and "Shanghaied" are my favorites on those LP's and were the first two tunes I learned when I was young. (not WDR nor Pineline...) The Ventures don't play these two tunes too often, except played "Shanghaied" in Okahoma City in 1980's.

I got the CD a few years ago on the WDR 1960 and WDR '64 VOL 2.........I CAN NOT believe the difference in the sound of the Jazzmasters and the Mosrites.
Although Bogle preferred the Neck Pickup on his Jazzmaster, it still had what I would describe as a Lame "Mellow-Jello Twang tone" compared to the Mosrite
Guitar with a more "Driving Edge tone" to it. And of course, I don't believe there was ANY COMPARISON between the 2 (Bob and Nokie) Players. Also, when you
compare the songs that were on both albums, it is very interesting how those songs on the Original Album seem to have an 'outdated tone' to them, but yet,
they still have a more up-to-date tone 4 years later. Of course, the more up-to-date arrangements also help :mrgreen: . Yet again, the tone on the Jazzmasters,
just sound outdated :roll: .....just my 2 cents worth.....
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

Nice! Go to the flea market, you may find the reel player there.
Luckily, I still have my record player at home. These LP's still play and sound great.

Couldn't agree more. All my favorite Ventures material is from their "Mosrite era" and I am not crazy about the guitar sounds on their earlier records, or most of the early material for that matter.

Wish I could get pics of all my stuf but its in the UK, next trip home I'll get a photo. I have over 60+ albums, numerous singles and Ep's. I also have many of the Japanese Liberty re-issues of several albums when they were selling them in the late 80's/early 90's.

I've got many that are quite rare and a copy of Live Again that I havent seen anywhere since I bought it way back. I was thinking of bidding on this when the auction was up, probably the rareist Ventures item you can find;

The Real McCoy/Cookies and Coke
