Dan, the idea of a resin body strikes me as brilliant. It seems as though you are perfectly capable of surmounting any little obstacles that arise.

I tried once to get the techs at Martin Guitar to make an acoustic guitar out of glass just to illustrate their bracing and so on, and they quickly let me know how crazy they thought the idea was. But it could have been done with plexi or something.

Many folks play acoustic guitars for years and never realize what goes into making one sound the way it does. Electrics, too, for that matter!

So it goes . . .

Very cool idea Jim. I've been wanting to meet someone who blows glass and make a compensated bridge out of glass. One of these days if I can find a chunk of glass about 3"x1/2"x3/4" I'll just grind my own. I think it would add a cool dimension to the tone. I do have some experience comparing aluminum, brass, copper, and titanium on a Gretsch guitar and it's amazing how noticeable the sound difference is.

Sarah, Jim;
How about fired ceramic. I have a kiln to experiment with.

I think the fired ceramic idea is a good one. I can't see why it wouldn't work.

My concern would be if it's too fragile, compared to glass.

Sorry; I made a mental jump here that wasn't reflected in my posts. Another thing I had mentioned to the tech guys at CFMartin was whether acoustic guitar bridge saddles could be made of a fired ceramic material. In that situation, it seems to me that the pressure would be rather stable and consistent.

Making an entire acoustic guitar bridge out of ceramic might be a little trickier, because of the torque it might be subject to. There are so many different kinds of electric guitar bridges and some are so specific to a situation that I'd be inclined to doubt that a ceramic would be suitable.
