Re: Projects in progress...
Half a year later...

The Ventures II is waiting for its pickups, meanwhile it's a great accoustic guitar... The neck has waited 46 years to feel some strings.
The sharkfin Ramones still needs a lot of work, mostly at the neck and head.
The Victory III needs some neck finishing and perhaps a decent body color like translucent blonde or gold.
Better pictures soon...
Cheers and happy holidays,
Max

Re: Projects in progress...
Hi folks,
some pictures of my slab Ventures II clone...
Nearly finished, only the pickups are missing – Bob Shade will help me with a pair of replicas.
Some original Mosrite parts (neck, trem, bridge from 1965, pots, switch, wiring from 1968), body and pickguard made after tracing of an original slab – I think it's a quite exact clone. Finish made in nitro, final clear nitro coat is missing, but it's glossy enough for my needs.

Cheers, Max

Re: Projects in progress...
... and I found some time to work on the neck for my Johnny Ramone V-2 clone (I've posted some photos of Johnny's original here: http://www.mosriteforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4895).
It seems I have to hurry a little as oipunkguy is working at a very similar project and I fear there's a little race between us
- Aaron's project can be found here: http://www.mosriteforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=4928.
My neck is finished except for the final paintwork and I've already been able to testdrive it on my Gospel Victory III. On the pix the headstock still wears the remains of my drilling template... I could have been finished with the clone but I made a mistake so I will have to redo the body completely - Johnny's guitar is not nearly as offset as the 1990 Gospel body I have.
Here are some pix...

Go, Aaron, go!
Cheers, Max

Re: Projects in progress...
beautiful work Max. I dunno, I think you still might beat me on the sharkfin model. i still need to put on binding, do some sanding, shaping of the neck, get a decal made, and paint the whole thing. Oh and get the super hot pickup made too. i guess I can wind the pickup while I wait for paint to dry
I love the sunburst ventures 2. I gotta get one made for myself down the road.

Re: Projects in progress...
Hey ho,
a little update here – I needed one more year to finish the V-2
I had to build another body because of the neck's position, and this is what I did. Meanwhile I got a hardtail and a neckplate from Bob and exactly the right pickup from Phil (thanks again!), so all parts were here – all I had to do is to get the body ready and put the stuff together.
Sawing, routing, sanding...

Some nitro lacquer

Painting the headstock

Drilling the holes, hoping not to ruin it at this point

Sorry for the beat-up screws

Finished...

All three together

Cheers,
Max
