New Guy and Hallmark Owner in Tacoma

Postby seageek » Sun Feb 19, 2012 8:40 am

Howdy, my name's Noah and I live in Tacoma, WA. I'm 38 yrs old.
I got my first guitar when I was around seven years old and decided I would grow up to be a rock star.
My dad liked to listen to Dire Straights, the Allman Bros and Led Zeppelin so I tried to play like that.
When I was in 8th grade I discovered the Cramps and had my first life revelation.
I've been very interested in where rock and roll came from ever since.
About 15 years ago a friend brought over a cassette of Joe Maphis playing with Merle Travis.
We were blown away and thought the best thing in the world would be to die being able to play like Joe Maphis.
Since then I've played in a couple of recording/touring rockabilly bands and between getting married and having kids am still just trying to play like Joe Maphis.
I picked up a Hallmark c60 this week and think it might help me get closer!

Welcome to the forum, Noah...

I have a C60 but for some strange reason I can't play like Joe Maphis.

Maybe you'll have better luck with yours

Hope you get some great inspiration from that Mosrite. Joe Maphis has been my hero for over 50 years.

Welcome to the forum Noah. That Hallmark is sharp looking. To me, nothing beats a white guitar!

Excuse me for chiming in here. That red guitar is a TV Jones. I can't remember the model name, though. Tom (his name is really Tom Jones) had Gretsch licensed to produced those for a while, in both regular guitar and baritone versions. I believe Gretsch called them SpectraSonics, and I've never seen the Gretsch versions in any color other than black. I think TV Jones is still making the red ones. And that white Hallmark looks great! I love mine--I've got a Surf Pearl one.

Loved reading your intro, welcome Noah.
I can't get any of my guitars to play Joe Maphis either...so from time to time I just put on either one of my CD's "Fire On The Strings" [Columbia/Legacy CK 62148] and "Country Guitar Giants / Merle Travis & Joe Maphis" [CMH CD-8445] and just sit back and enjoy :P
