Here's a picture of my old Excellent (now with Fritz) and my '66. The Excellent is on the left. I put a mint guard on it and swapped in a 1Meg pot for volume in place of the 250K pot. Most Excellents have 500K pots; some, like mine, didn't. Also, most have serial numbers, but some don't (mine didn't) and most have Mosrite labelled pickup covers but some don't (mine didn't).
I think the frets are the same general size on the Excellent as on the '66, but the vintage mosrites then had the frets filed down to nearly non-existant. Some don't care for this, others, like me, do. It's entirely possible to give an Excellent a speed fret job, but also entirely unnecessary; it's really just a feel thing. I gave my parts-rite a speed fret job, which you can read about in the semi-mosrite thread on the projects forum.
So, without further ado, here are two mossies:

Great pic, Mosman. Especially the red one.
Mel. Also a superb picture! Great for comparison. I think that mine will be almost identical to Zak's as the serialnumbers are very close (and same size/font) as far as I remember from Zak's photo of his. It also has the Mosrite stamp on the pups.
Why didn't you go for the 'traditional correct' 500k pots?

The 500K pots had standard sized shafts and didn't fit the knobs. I had a 1Meg pot I'd taken out of a MIJ Jaguar (I upgraded that to FenderUS parts) which fit the knobs so I used that.
If you're guitar was made in the same timeframe as Zak's you'll probably be good to go straight out of the box!

When I bought my Excellent from Mel I was able to compare it directly to his original '66. The guitars were almost close enough as to make no difference.

Re: Ok guys, I finally bought one! Mosrite Excellent.
Got it yesterday but haven't had much time to play it yet.
First impressions:
It feels very much like the vintage ones I've seen and tried. Yippiee! I do think the neck-pup could be raised a bit for more grit.
Everything seems to be a-ok apart from the D and G string are buzzing like crazy. It seems that the string-barrels has gone a bit loose. They move from side to side when I touch them. I just need to tighten them, right? Man, those 10s feels like banjostrings on a Mosrite, haha. Huge difference from Fender as you all say.
I'll post more later and a couple of pics.

Lars,
Take a look at this topic. It will cure that string post movement which is common on some Mosrite bridges.
