Well, I think the 5th tme is the charm for the bridge. This one looks identical to the previous one from the top but I cut the vertical piece shorter so that there is plenty of clearance for the strings. I also shortened and narrowed the tailpiece in both directions so it doesn't look so bulky.

looking good, i think you're right that one is gonna be the one. now all you need is to find a 5th screw the same color as the rest. ;)

I had 2 Fender bridges laying around - 1 was from a MIM P-bass and the other one was from a SX Jazz bass. I did buy an extra black screw in case I run across another MIM bridge. Once I determine that the bridge is going to work OK I can look around for another saddle, or break out the black paint.

The plan is to make a cover for the bridge so it will look original just longer.

You'll have to put the screw heads facing the tailpiece, as string pressure will tend to creep the saddles forward if you mount it as shown in the photo.

Good point. It looks like the bridge will work ok turned around.

OK. I've been working steadily on this as time permits. Got the headstock shaped, tuners drilled, and tailpiece mounted. The bridge isn't screwed down yet since I'm not sure I'll be using it but at this point I have something that makes noise.

Here's a pic of the back of the headstock. The tuners are Hipshot Ultralights. They fit great in the space allotted and they are reversible so I didn't have to go through any special ordering nonsense.

I've been proceeding along at a leisurely pace. The pickup routes are finished and I did a quick mockup of a pickguard today. I'm thinking the pickguard might not change a whole lot. There's a pic of my pickup test jig in here too.

I love the way the 3 EMG's look. I imagine that's gonna sound powerful!

Thanks,
